Karate grading (and catching up)

Jul 10, 2007 20:48

Last weekend (the 30th/1st) was full of karate, or it felt like it. A class on Friday evening, a demo at a local school's summer fete on Saturday afternoon, higher-grades class on Sunday morning, and our club's grading on Sunday afternoon. My instructor asked me (and the other new black belt) to help out on the judging panel for the grading - it felt very strange to be on the other side of the desk, trying to cast a critical eye on those we normally train with. Good experience, though, and it was interesting to do something new.

A productive week at work followed, where I got my code kicked into shape, compiling on a modern C++ compiler without any warnings (with much appreciated help from marble). Productive, but not very exciting to write about, so I'll stop there ;)

This weekend just gone was much quieter - and less stressful, thankfully! Mostly we just relaxed, although I had the usual higher-grades class on Sunday morning (with five of us training!), and we went out to the pub with Ed for drinks and a chat in the evening. We hadn't seen him for ages, so that was good.

Despite all the relaxing, I slept badly for three out of four nights over the weekend, so I was in a fairly pitiful state by yesterday - my head was aching, and I was really struggling to take anything in. A good night's sleep last night and a day of working at home today (meant I could have a lie in, and no driving etc.) has made a world of difference, and thankfully I feel much human now :)
