1. boards of canada:
   My favorite electronic music production duo from Scotland ever. Deep, cerebral, challenging, fun, depressing, enlightening and they sample Leslie Neilsen talking about volcanoes from a Canadian Public Broadcasting show.
2. dj shadow:
   The best hip-hop producer ever. My first real hip-hop record was Endtroducing (given to me by my lovely future wife). This record changed the way I listened to and thought about music. I know every nuance of every song. This man is a genius.
3. fourtracks:
   I love using my four track to record. I still prefer to lay down drums on a four track and the transfer them to my comp. I need to clean the heads on mine, though. I'm starting to get that All Hail West Texas thing going on with it.
4. john coltrane:
   "Listening to Coltrane in the freezing rain my reality went insane and I think I saw Jesus. He was playing hop scotch with Betty Carter who was cursing him out in a scat-like gibberish for not saying butter fingers"
   
   I wish Coltrane was still alive and doing a lot of smack.
5. milemarker:
   Futureisms was one of thise records I listened to everyday for about a year. SO now I can't really listen to it anymore. But I love they way they sounded on that record and wish their newer stuff still had that driving keyboard and distorted vocal sound.
6. opus:
   Opus is a solid hip-hop producer. I think his stand out quality is a hard-hitting drums sound. Although clearly MIDI, the drums are really raw and put out in front. opus does a great job of layering around the drum sound. I wish some of the MCs he uses would be better. But his instrumental shit is unbelieveable.
7. prefuse 73:
   I have listened to Up Rock ... at least 100 times and I hear something new every time. Redicuously complicated beats, interwoven turntable acrobatics, perfect use of vocal patterns to accent the music. A perfect record. Newer stuff is good, but not as good.
8. smiths:
   I fucking love The Smiths.
9. turntables:
   I have a Technics 1200 and some Gemini POS. I never knew why people would pay so much for a record player until I got my Technics. I am getting into DJing more, I really dig being able to play songs for people. I just like it to be on my terms.
