Tampa, what a waste

I love this fucking town. Everyone complains that Tampa sucks and no one comes here blah blah blah.

Monday nigh I was one of the very few in attendance at the NWB for what proved to be one of the most innovative and captivating musical experiences I have ever had. Keith Fullerton Whitman, aka Hrvatski, Greg Moore and some other dude, aka the Bird Show, laid down some of the sickest electronic/experimental music I have ever heard. Lush, thick, complex and beautiful, I can't fully explain the process, but it consisted of more instruments and equipment than three people should have. All the sound sources were organic (bells, clickity-clack things, violin, harmonium) and run through microphones and then processed through laptops and what not.

This was somehting truly original and unrepeatable. And per usual, Tampa showed no love. I think about 15 people were there.

This is the environment in which we all live. When people show a hint of originality or danger, no one supports it. When bands that have been around for 100 years playing the exact same safe tired shit they have peddled out forever, i.e. NWB 10th Anniversary show, hundreds of people show.

And everyone wonders why all the creative and talented people leave.
