'Until the teacher arrives, you may discuss your literary preferences and hopes for the future year. Signed. S.S.' What on Earth did that mean, Himawari thought to herself. And what was with the box behind the desk? Oh well, the board said to discuss literature and the future year so she may as well do that.

The only question is with whom?

Hazuki sat down next to the only other student in the room, and, after placing her bag next to the table, turned towards the other girl.

"I wonder what they will discuss with us in this lecture." Hazuki wondered aloud, demonstrating again that she was a failure at starting a conversation properly. She really hated doing it. But well...she had to start somewhere.
Of course, at that point, she remembered that it was probably polite to mention her name. Thus, she added a mumbled "I am Hazuki Azuma*, by the way."

"Himawari Kunogi," she replied to the girl. She looked familiar though, "Have we met before? You look familiar." If she had met the girl before it was probably at the morning assembly, but there had been several people there.

Himawari would have started the conversation, it just meant she didn't have to do it this time. "I don't know. The board says that we're supposed to be discussing our 'literary preferences and hopes for the future year,' so I would assume that it would be something like that." She considered the options for a moment before continuing, "I really enjoy Gothic literature. I like the way that it can draw you in with the atmosphere and then surprise you at the end. I love reading it."

She really doesn't seem the type to enjoy dark, grotesque stories, does she?

"We met in the assembly, close to the young man who was keeping notes." Hazuki answered, nodding.

"Gothic literature?" Hazuki said after Himawari had finished, tilting her head slightly in thought. She had touched books that were, somehow, connected to something gothic, she was sure of that. In a huge library. With floating crystals everywhere.

"I think I read some of these Gothic novels before." She finally said, giving Himawari a look she considered friendly. "But in general, I'm sure I mostly liked books with swordplay. Probably not something called high literature - it is unlikely that the teacher will be very impressed. On the other hand, they seem to like boxes..."

Hazuki was not particularly interested in literature, but it was, in the big scheme of things, probably one of the less annoying classes. That was one of the reason why she was even bothering to attend it.

Apparently, few people shared that thought - the class room was empty, except one student, the furniture, and a box. A very noticeable box, occupying the teacher's position behind the desk.

"You can't be serious." Hazuki groaned, as she stepped towards the desk - and the box. Which she then swiftly kicked. There was a simple reason for that behavior: Hazuki was somewhat annoyed with the school as a whole, namely that it failed to give her any clue about who she was. Stupid stuff like this particularly innocent box thus found little tolerance. It reminded her of really stupid things that had happened in her dreams. "If someone wearing a stupid hat were jumping out of that box, I'm gonna nail the stupid hat to the damn blackboard" she thought to herself ( ... )

The first thing Marth thought when he walked into the classroom was, wow, the color of that box is so tacky. Who used orange for decorating anymore?

He sat down and proceeded to watch Hazuki kick the ugly thing, and even talk to it. Was the teacher in there? Why was everything at this school so weird? Marth loved literature, and he hoped the class would be fun and not some drug-induced mess.

He dropped his head on the desk, sighing.

"A-are you okay?" Melusine looks at the blue-haired boy with a worried look in her eyes. Was he sick? Was he going to be sick? If so, could she help him?

...Oops.

Marth popped back up quickly and turned to the girl. "Oh, yes, I'm fine!" he said, laughing nervously. "I was just thinking about what could possibly happen in this class." It was very frustrating to have a box for a teacher.

Also, Marth had finally started sleeping again, so his schedule was really out of whack. He was a bit tired, but not feeling sick, so don't worry. "I'm sorry I troubled you."

Well, at least the box had apparently written instructions on the board, so... well, it had that going for it, at least?

"O-oh, it's okay!" She holds up her hands and laughs a bit, embarrassed that she asked, now. "I just hoped you weren't going to be ill. And it certainly seems to be... a.... special class, doesn't it?"

This is ridiculous.

This is a literature lesson, not independent study. The teacher is supposed to provide everyone with a list of necessary literature, information concerning the authors and points to focus on. He's not supposed to just give them a sign and disappear. What kind of a teacher does that?

Lelouch intends to protest. Oh, he definitely intends to do so.

And he'll do so by reading Hamlet aloud. Take that.

Nina tries to politely ignore her fellow classmate, who seems intent on creating a scene in class, but she finds herself intrigued by the play he's reading aloud.

"Excuse me," she inquires politely, taking advantage of a pause, "but may I ask what you're reading from?"

...Why yes, she has just essentially admitted to having absolutely no knowledge of Shakespeare.

"Why, what should be the fear? I do not set my life in a pin's fee; And for my soul, what can it do to that, Being a thing immortal as itself? It waves me forth again: I'll follow it," Lelouch concludes the reading of his current line in a dramatic manner, fit of a professional actor. Only then, does he turn toward Nina and looks over her critically, almost as if he's judging her for not knowing the lines.

"Hamlet," he finally comments harshly. "William Shakespeare."

There was something oddly familiar about those lines. One by one, as Lelouch read them aloud, Marth remembered them, remembered what came next.

Well, of course. Anyone should have known who William Shakespeare was. But he didn't know how he knew that. He must have studied this play long ago, otherwise he would not have known it.

Before the uncultured girl can respond to Lelouch, Marth is already saying the next few lines quietly. "What if it tempt you toward the flood, my lord; or to the dreadful summit of the cliff; that beetles o'er his base into the sea...?" He remained in his chair for now, though, not wanting to intrude.

He's ten minutes late. And judging by his demeanor, he was probably sleeping up until now. He sure as hell doesn't look very awake anyway.

Travis plods through the class, ignoring the box, the board, the other members, and everything else for good measure. He does this until he reaches a desk at the back of the room, at which point he drops his bag, sits down, and promptly falls asleep. Apparently sleeping in classes is better than missing them outright?

Travis isn't alone in his sleepiness. The desk right next to him is occupied by Serenade, who looks about as awake as the class' main delinquent. Sure, he does have several books in front of him... A Sherlock Holmes novel and a compilation of Shakespeare's sonnets, aren't they? But while the last one is open, he doesn't seem to care about it much.

In fact, he has his hands curled up like a pillow, and his head resting on top of them. His closed eyes are barely seen behind the sky-blue hair, and his breathing is calm and even.

Darn students. All of them are sleeping.

And next to Serenade, there's a girl with long green hair (apparently exotic hair colours are in these days). She has her arms crossed, and she's looking around the classroom with a critic's eye.

The look in those eyes is obviously one that says 'I'm in a class, no, in a school, full of retards'. And of course, she can do absolutely nothing about it.

Well, if you put it like that...

"Hey," she suddenly snaps, and she swiftly hits both boys over the head. "The teacher might be a box, but you could at least stay awake. It's not our fault that you stayed up all night making friends with your right hand."
