so i caught my first bollywood movie over the weekend. "3 idiots" doesn't count as i watched part of it at home, and i say part of it because i didn't finish watching the entire thing! 3 hours of drama, song and dance - i dozed off quite a few times during that stressful work period. oops.
anyway, this bollywood movie is called "2 states", and is based on a book authored by the same guy who inspired "3 idiots". as with all bollywood blockbusters, it was a good 2.5 hours of drama, song, mass dances, laughter and tears. the movie is about a punjabi guy from delhi who falls in love with a tamilian girl from chennai, and how they overcame cultural differences between the two families to gain acceptance of each other and finally got married. it was not only an eye opener to the indian social culture, but also very reflective of what marriage is all about - not just a union between the couple, but their families too.
"Boy loves Girl. Girl loves Boy.
Girl’s family has to love boy. Boy’s family has to love girl.
Girl’s Family has to love Boy’s Family. Boy’s family has to love girl’s family.
Girl and Boy still love each other. They get married.”
well worth a watch! here's one of my favourite tunes in the movie:
