Burn down the school ...

"Burn down the school. Save the books, perhaps, but get the teacher to tell you the real secrets: what does he read and write as a guilty pleasure? Guilty pleasure is what writing is all about. It is about attractions: words you can't resist using to describe things too interesting to pass up. And forget lofty motives."

Hey Sky,

Sorry I've been so slack on replies of late. Lots of things competing for my attention, but its not a GOOD excuse. Glad you enjoyed this - I certainly am. I would try and get hold of the book if you can, but if not, I'll detail all of the exercises in here, and you could do them with me, if you'd like - that'd be huge fun!

I'd love to do a creative writing course - never have - but fitting it in while Sofia is so little would be difficult. I think I'll try and do a residential course when Sofia is weaned, still six months or so away, but the combination of a pamper weekend and writing course is worth the wait!

Re the rambling - its very liberating! Probably has a lot to do with the subject matter though - when I'm thinking about myself or my life, its not linear thought, whereas if I'm righting a story with a straightforward plot, my thoughts don't tend to ramble.

BTW, I see yourself and Laenwyn are writing again. I'm not actually reading fic at the moment - simply don't have the time when the choice is between reading and writing. But that doesn't mean I don't still love you both!

Actually, I found the book on sale so I got a copy myself. I'm going to do the exercises in my journal, but on a filter. I'll add you in case you're interested.
