オーエス!ファイト! そういうモノよ わかるかしら

SO THIS ENTRY IS JUST GOING TO BE ME BABBLING ABOUT JAPAN AGAIN. I think way too much, I swear. Also the lyrics as my title/cut are from a really catchy song...

Okay! So at Splendorocity, the mods determined (after a PM) that nyotalia didn't have enough canon. I thought it might happen, and originally I had expected to give up at that point and stick with the games I already have, but... It just looks so darn cute, I really want to try out someone there. ... And since I had been thinking about fem!Japan, the easiest step from there is just male Japan!

As you all know, I play Japan way too much. So let's see the two Japans I have at games already.

1904 - end of Meiji
1852 - end of seclusion

With those comes with what sort of tone I've already taken with Japan.

1904: Very focused on learning about others, making new friends, understanding people. Hesitant about his own thoughts-- he wants to keep his own culture, but learn others as well. Constant attempt to balance these things.. Stuff like that!

1852: Stubbornly resisting all attempts to open his borders to the world. The only westerner he trusts even remotely is Holland.. so it's not a true seclusion, he trades with China, Korea, and Holland during this time. If you look at the list of attempts at opening Japan's borders, it's pretty crazy-- so it's safe to say he's very stubborn about all of this. Not only that, but a bit childish. In the comics, he sort of whines at his own people when they try to get him to speak with other nations, etc etc. But he can also go from whiny/childish/hiding in a blanket to very serious/motivated/determined (Shown in his strips with Holland!!)

SO after speaking with people last night, I've determined I want a new time period. More specifically, I started looking at Early Showa period. Showa is 1926-1989. Hmm after mooooooore talking and overall thinking out loud, I narrowed it down even more.

1933? 1939? 1940? I'M THINKING SOMEWHERE AROUND THERE.

Basically all of those are close enough together where I'd portray Japan basically the same! Very quiet, a bit mysterious, but he'll be umm.. How do I explain this. More blunt.. in some respects? And less likely to whine and flail at embarrassing things-- I mean, he'll do that always because he's shy and stuff, but there's a point where he'll give up, or just give a sort of defeated and horrified look. Yeahhh it's hard to voice a subtle different like that, but I hope it will be noticeable! I also think he'll be quicker to voice certain opinions, because he's more set on what he's doing! So more confidence, you could say!!

Anyway, now I just need to choose a specific year. Hmmm. Here's the main points I like about those three I selected:

1933 - He leaves the league of nations because they all disagree with his actions in Manchuria. I like this point because it's the start of him... well, moving towards being a threat towards world peace. I mean the entire league of nations voted that Japan should stay out of Manchuria, and when Japan was the only one who was like "Um no I'm staying kthx," then he just left the league and went on his own. He had no major allies, but internally, popular nationalism was crazy high. He was just this crazy ~*~rogue state~*~ empire.

1939 - Basically the things I like about this one are that he's the same as 1933, but further in. He's VERY expansionist at this time, and though it wouldn't really show outwardly, his goals would definitely be more along that line. He still has no major allies, so he's sort of alone in all this, and very determined. Yeahhh. Also, he's already invaded China at this point, etc.

1940 - The start of his alliance with Germany and Italy. Basically he still has all of these traits, but I have way more canon to look at and know for sure that's what he's like. It's a comfortability thing, especially since I'm not sure if Splendorocity will have an issue if he's from a year or so prior, since they said something like.. younger/older versions need to be in canon. I'm not sure if that counts with countries/hetalia, where Himaruya draws all sorts of random timelines. Hmmm. There is a downside to this, in my opinion, and that's his having allies. I don't know, I kind of wanted him to be a loner type. THEN AGAIN, there are more upsides. Those would be: 1) his canon reaction to western culture is very amusing, and I'd get to play him from the start of that. (Then again, he'd react that way if he first interacted with non-japanese in the city, too!) and 2) the ~enemy~ is more set in.

Keeping in mind those are my thoughts after some brief skim reading and retained knowledge from some history classes and a culture class. HAHAHA so!! Gosh I can't decide, I am so indecisive. That's why I wrote this, it will help me think. UMMM if you have an opinion, feel free to let me know, maybe you can help me decide! Otherwise, I'll just decide on my own and get the app in soon. Definitely by Friday, and since Thursday is my busy day... maybe tonight.

Oh but yes, I talk about it all seriously here, but Japan is always going to be Japan. |D hehehehh. I'm going to make his account after I decide the year, and then post to d_m and use that as my sample, probably. I'll plurk it later today or something and ask you guys to help me if you can, and then maybe you'll see what I mean!
