Popular Japanese Novels in English, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost in the Shell, & Dark Horse Comics

Kodansha, a great site for introducing yourself to, or curbing your craving for, Japanese best-selling novels. Great authors like Miyuki Miyabi (one of Masae's absolute favorite authors -- and quickly becoming one of mine), Ryu Murakami (Coin Locker Babies, In the Miso Soup), Kenzaburo Oe, Yukio Mishima and many others. Also find books on cooking, crafts, culture and more.

I picked up All She Was Worth (火車 - Kasha), a fantastic "noir" mystery by Miyuki Miyabe, over the weekend. I can't put it down. That's saying a lot, considering I'm not a mystery fan.

There were two Vampire Hunter D novels on the same shelf as well. I almost picked one up. Should have. Next time I guess. Which reminded me that the Ghost in the Shell Second GIG novels (prose not comics) were being translated... damnit, guess that kills my project. (I was translating one of them.) The first The Lost Memory (which I think is titled "The Memory Labyrinth" in Japanese) should be released later this year by Dark Horse Comics. Speaking of Dark Horse Comics, they are releasing EDEN. I've been talking about this book for two years (three?) now. DON'T MISS IT! (There's a preview onsite.)
