The teachers are professionals, so they have a lot of tricks up their sleeves! The grid can be used for both proportional enlargement as well as distorted enlargements. Alphonse Mucha (the famous art nouveau artist) not only used a grid, he used diagonals as well! The grid really is helpful, a lifesaver...

As for how long... TOO long! It's mainly a matter of concentration. It's been nearly 20 years since I drew properly, so my concentration bunny has fled the building... I'd say, if I were to tally up the total amount of actually *working* on this piece, it would probably be around 30 hours. Mostly for reasons of concentration, as well as sort of learning as I go, both technique and figuring out how to use the different pencils.

But my eyes really go nuts after a while, and I get overwhelmed by the details, and have to put it away for another week. But like I said, when I pull it out again, it's all fresh, and I can see what I need to do. Once I'm done with this, my plan (hah, such as it is!) is to start doing TF stuff, probably either for Abyssal, or a particular BDSM pic I have in mind... But I need toy references for Hound, and Mirage's backside... ;D
