Best Airline to Japan?

Jan 26, 2012 03:40

Hello, I'll be studying abroad in Japan this upcoming March, and well, I've never flown before. I apologize, in advance, if this is too off-topic for the community; but I figure, who better to ask, rather than a community of native speakers and those who are also studying the language, such as this one, who many of which have more than likely ( ... )

japanophiles would probably be a better community for this question...

ETA: Mmm, taking a look at japanophiles' recent posts and number of members I suppose I can see how this community might give you better answers. I'll allow it, but as an exception. On a side-note, if anyone reads this comment knows of a good community we can link to in the profile for more general Japan-related questions, please let me know so I can add it.

Maybe student_travel? The info page makes it look like it's only about spending as little money as possible, but there are also plenty of questions concering other topics, e.g. which landmarks to go to, how to behave properly etc.

Not sure that is what you seek since it's not only about Japan, but I found it pretty useful :>

Are most of the posts on japanophiles mostly locked and viewable to members only or all they all just posts selling miscellaneous stuff? Just curious.

For both affordability and quality I've found that Singapore Airlines is the best. I've taken Singapore round trip two times and one way one time and I'm completely satisfied. Their entertainment system is a big point. It has way more than enough. Plus, they always give ice cream, they tend to have really great service, I feel comfortable on the flight, and I've found that even...really small trivial things...like the colorful outfits worn by flight attendants somehow make the experience better.

The worst airline to Japan I've experienced is United. In the economy class, I was super uncomfortable and felt trapped in a prison in the sky. I took United for two round trips and decided...NEVER AGAIN.

I took American Airlines for one round trip and it was okay from what I remember...but not amazing or anything.

Oh, and I almost took Singapore Airlines another time but my flight was one week after 3/11/2011...
They let everyone cancel and get full refunds.

It might be useful to know where you're flying from.

I went to Japan this september, and I'm going home and back again this month/next month. FIrst time I flew lufthansa and now I'm going British Airways. TBH I just went to Expedia and chose the cheapest flight. Just before you fly, make sure you check that your airline is reputable which is easy to do with just google.

it really depends where your flying from. as one other commenter posted singapore can be nice -- but from where I live it"s super expensive. I fly ANA and actually its one of the best prices i get myself from where i live. That makes a good difference.

Ohhh yeah!
I totally forgot it matters where people are flying from.
I fly from LAX and Singapore Airlines was usually one of the less expensive options from there.
For some reason ANA was always more expensive.
