Starring Matsuyama Kenichi, the film Norwegian Wood has its world premiere at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. The film is one of 24 films contending for the prestigious Golden Lion award. Slated for release in Japan on December 11th, Norwegian Wood will also be distributed to 36 countries.
Around 1,100 fans attended the premiere at the Sala Grande screening room. Tickets were completely sold out. Lead actors Matsuyama Kenichi (25), Kikuchi Rinko (29) and Mizuhara Kiko (19) were accompanied on the red carpet by director Ahn Hung Tran. Matsuyama wore a black suit, while Kikuchi wore Chanel. Mizuhara wore a dress by Valentino.
At the end of the screening, the cast received a 3 minute standing ovation, which left them overwhelmed with emotions. Matsuyama and Director Ahn exchanged a friendly handshake. "During the applause I had an immense feeling of accomplishment. From here on the film will be distributed overseas. I hope more people will be able to watch this film."
After starring in the film Detroit Metal City, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2008, this is the second time Matsuyama has appeared on the world stage. Matsuyama seems determined to become an international actor, and said: "I would love to come here again. Even if it's for a different film, I hope for more opportunities to meet with people from around the world. I will continue to do my best."
