In Oricon's most recent survey they asked female high-school students about which actress they think had the biggest breakthrough throughout the first half of 2010. The Top5 doesn't really consist of absolutely newcomers in the industry but actresses who never really had that much of a major following before 2010. They might have appeared in a couple of low-budget movies already, had a few roles in drama series here and there, but their popularity still had much room to increase.
Full Top 5:
01 - Naka Riisa
02 - Kitagawa Keiko
03 - Kawashima Umika
04 - Yoshitaka Yuriko
05 - Sasaki Nozomi
According to the female students, actress Naka Riisa (20) is the perfect example and voted her onto the first place. People might have known and seen her before, but this year she truly had her big breakthrough with two major roles in the live-action adaption "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and the cult movie "Zebraman 2". Especially her role as Zebra Queen in the Zebraman movie left a big impression in the minds of people. "ZebraQueen was absolutely impressive," one student commented. Before she used to have a pure image like many of her colleagues, but that role really the changed opinion of many. Further she even used that role to gain some experience as a singer. "Dramas, movies and now even music. I think she has been one of the most active actresses this year," another student praised Naka. Her activity doesn't seem to end anytime soon as it has already been confirmed that she will have her first TV starring role this summer in the drama series "Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo".
Despite all this, Naka herself was really surprised when she heard that she ranked first in this ranking. "It's a huge surprise that people voted for me. I'm really happy to be on first place, but it's all thanks to the continued support of my fans that I was able to do my best so far. I'd like to continue to try my best and deliver nice performances without forgetting the initial resolution I had when I first started acting," she said. Naka had her debut back in 2004 and with turning 20 last year, she made a big step forward in her career. There is no doubt that she is going to become an even bigger name in the industry from now on.
