A high school girl was seriously injured after being stabbed more than 10 times by a stranger on a street, police said.
At around 8:15 p.m. on June 11, a passer-by found the girl -- a 17-year-old third-year student at a local high school -- bleeding near a park in Ichinomiya and asking for help, and called an ambulance, local police said.
She was rushed to a hospital where she was diagnosed with serious wounds to her chest, neck, back and other parts of her body. Police said she had been stabbed more than 10 times.
Investigators said they suspect that it was a random attack.
The passer-by, a 46-year-old man, has told investigators that he heard someone screaming as he was walking along a sidewalk near Inari Park in Ichinomiya, then saw a man leaving the park. The bleeding girl subsequently approached the passer-by asking for help.
In a separate incident, another high school girl was injured after being hit by a man in the face on a municipal road about five kilometers east of the scene of the stabbing. Local police are investigating a possible link between the two cases.
