Actress Koyuki paid a courtesy call this week to the head of the Fukuoka Film Commission, Mayor Hiroshi Yoshida, to thank him for his support while she was shooting on location for the film “Shin-san Tanko Machi no Serenade.”

The author of the original script, Tomoki Tsujiuchi, as well as director Hideyuki Hirayama, are both from Fukuoka, and Koyuki reported to the mayor that the crew worked together closely and that the film showed their closeness to the area. “It’s definitely got a lot of love in it. I hope people of all different ages enjoy the film.”

The film is set in a coal mining town during the Showa era, with Koyuki playing the role of kind mother. During the filming, a fire broke out on the shopping street where the crew was, and everyone dropped what they were doing to work together and extinguish it. Koyuki said, “I got to see the fiery passion of the Kyushu people.”

The film is set to be released in Fukuoka on May 15 and nationally in the autumn.
