Kokko Kashiwaya's manga "Rikon Doukyo" is being adapted as a live-action drama series this spring. NHK plans to broadcast the drama in a Tuesday 10:00pm time slot, starting on May 11.
Comedic actor Sadao Abe (39) is taking on the starring role as a man named Ryuji, while model Eriko Sato (28) plays his wife Harumi. The script is being handled by Mitsuru Tanabe.
The story revolves around a couple, Ryuji and Harumi, who have built a happy life together. One day, Ryuji suddenly declares that he wants a divorce. They separate, but shortly after that, they end up living together again even though they are no longer married.
The original manga was serialized in Weekly Comic Bunch from 2007 to 2008 and released as two tankoubon volumes. Along with the news of the drama adaptation, it has also been announced that the manga is getting a sequel, starting with Weekly Comic Bunch's 13th issue, on sale February 26.
