A man posing as a customer at Tiffany & Co. jewelry store in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward made off with four rings priced at about 16 million yen after "trying" them on, police said.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at about 6 p.m. on Thursday, but when the man ran out of the store, he pointed what appeared to be a gun at a 30-year-old female employee who chased after him, police said.

Law enforcers said that the man had arrived at the store, located in the Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott department store, about an hour earlier, saying he wanted to see some engagement rings. After fitting the rings on the fingers of both of his hands and looking at them, he suddenly ran out of the store.

The man spoke in English, and he is believed to be a foreigner of Asian descent. He appeared to be aged in his 40s, and between 170 and 180 centimeters tall. He was wearing a black top and trousers.

The store is located in a shopping district east of Shinjuku Station, where several department stores and other large stores are located. The store was due to close at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
