Puffy change line-up after passing of FujiFabric's Masahiko Shimura
Cute rockers Ami Onuki, 36, and Yumi Yoshimura, 34, of duo Puffy, changed their song line-up at COUNTDOWN JAPAN 09/10 - a four-day rock festival being held at Makuhari Messe - to finish with “DOKI DOKI,” which was written by FujiFabric’s Masahiko Shimura, who died mysteriously last week.
Puffy kicked things off for the Galaxy Stage on opening day and rocked the crowd in a way that only Puffy can, with hits such as “Ai no shirushi,” “Nagisa ni matsuwaru” and “Asia no junshin,” before singing “DOKI DOKI” and dedicating it to the late Shimura.
Onuki later wrote on her blog of Shimura’s untimely passing: “I still haven’t accepted it. But when singing the song he wrote for us, I hoped he was a ble to hear it, so maybe I’m starting to deal with it…I don’t know.”
Shimura, 29-year-old guitarist and frontman of rock group FujiFabric, died of an unknown illness on Christmas Eve, and the band was forced to cancel their appearance at the event. The band, popular with the younger generation, said the remaining three members will continue performing some time next year.
