The cast and crew of Yoshihiro Nakamura’s upcoming live-action 3D Kaibutsu-kun movie were recently on location in Jaipur, India, where they shot scenes set in a fictional new area called “Curry Kingdom”. Newly announced cast additions Takaya Kamikawa and Kazuki Kitamura were also there, playing characters which will be integral to the film’s plot.

The movie is a big-budget continuation of the Kaibutsu-kun TV drama which aired on NTV from April-June 2010. The drama, which was based on a Fujiko Fujio manga and anime, involves a young prince from the land of monsters who was sent to the human world by his father in order to receive the training necessary to succeed the throne.

The film takes place about a month after Kaibutsu-kun returns from the human world. It’s finally time for him to take over the throne, but in lieu of thunderous applause, he’s met with booing and threats from the public. Once again he’s forced out of the land of monsters along with his companions-Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein-but instead of reaching Japan, they wind up in Curry Kingdom where Kaibutsu-kun is mistaken for a “legendary hero”. He decides to go with it, and ends up being sent on an adventure to rescue a kidnapped princess from a group of rebels.

Kamikawa plays a powerful sultan named Vishal and Kitamura plays his enemy, Sunil, the leader of the rebel army. Tatsuomi Hamada and Umika Kawashima are also in the movie, but instead of playing their characters from the show, Hiroshi and Utako, they play Prince Kar and Princess Pirari (Pilari? Pirali?) from Curry Kingdom.

Filming began on January 6th and is scheduled to wrap in early March. “Kaibutsu-kun” (tentative title) will be released in Japan sometime this winter.
