Actor and filmmaker Eiji Okuda (60) will direct and star in a drama special called "Beat" next year. He has previously directed four films, including the award-winning 2006 movie "A Long Walk" ("Nagai Sanpo"), but this will be his first time in charge of a television drama.
"Beat" is based on a novel of the same name by author Bin Konno, first published in 2000. Okuda plays a police detective investigating a bank accounting fraud and a subsequent murder. When his own rebellious son, played by Kengo Kora (23), emerges as a suspect, the case threatens to tear apart their family's bonds.
Naoto Ogata (43) and Erina Mizuno (17) have also been cast.
WOWOW will broadcast the drama on February 13, 2011.
