Takuya Kimura’s (37) upcoming movie “REDLINE” will be released in both Japan and the US, it was revealed yesterday at the movie’s press conference in Tokyo, reports CinemaCafe.net.

According to the film’s adversiting company, “REDLINE” will be screened at a cinema in San Francisco for a week starting on October 8, and will then have limited screenings across the US starting early next year.

Kimura, who was at yesterday’s press conference, has been reported to have been both surprised and excited at hearing this breaking news.

“This is the first time I’ve been told this so my first thought was ‘eh?’, but I’m really happy right now,” he said.

The movie follows JP (Kimura), a naive man who tries to win the heart of a female racer by entering in a “no rules” daredevil car race which is held only once every five years. Created by MADHOUSE, the movie has been entirely hand-drawn, taking seven years to complete at a cost of more than 100,000 pages of animation.

“The pop art never stops for a second, it’s continuosly moving and shows how each character is feeling.

“In this computer-graphics dominating age, I think people seeing this movie will be overwhelmed by the world that opens up from these hand drawings,” said Kimura.

Kimura also praised the work his fellow voice actors.

“Yu Aoi-san’s voice acting was really enchanting. Her Sonoshii character is amazing. I was drawn to both Asano-san and Aoi-san’s hard work that I got JP to where he is now.”

REDLINE director said Kimura gave his character a completely different look.

“In the anime, JP is a very friendly person, but I was worried that he might come off as weak. With Kimura-san’s voice, the character has become manly, sexy, and of course friendly. It gave me goosebumps,” said Asano.

“REDLINE” will open in cinemas across Japan from October 9.
