Sticking To Your Story

OPEN: JANUS FILE #0297

Sometimes, some people will start to say something, and you already know how the sentence is going to end.

Case in point: I was at work Saturday night when a customer walked in the door. The first words out of his mouth were, "I'm not buying these for myself . . . "

As I was walking behind the counter, I already knew what he was going to say. I stopped him mid-sentence, and I said, "You're buying Virginia Slims, aren't you?"

Yes, he was. The customer told me which variety of Virginia Slims he wanted, and added, "I'm buying them for my wife."

Well, I suppose that was just a little to easy to deduce. No guy is ever going to admit that he is buying Virginia Slims for himself.

Of course, part of me wanted to say, "Well, that's your story, and you're sticking to it." And now that I think about it, I remember an episode of CSI: Miami where Calleigh told Frank the exact same thing, albeit for a slightly different reason . . .
