More Wretched Scum You Will Not Find

There was this one news story a few days ago that has been stayed in my mind ever since I heard it on the new. This is one of those times when I hope that writing about it will help me get some sort of better perspective on it, hope that it will make some sense of the whole matter.
The news story was a bank robbery that took place in Indianapolis on Tuesday. During the course of the robbery, one of the robbers, for no apparent reason, shot one of the tellers. The teller was five months pregnant with twins, and she was shot in the abdomen.
From everything I have read or heard about this story, everyone at the bank was doing exactly as the robbers said. What sort of lowlife scum would shoot a pregnant woman for absolutely no reason?
At first, it seemed like there would be a happy ending to the story. The bullet missed both of the twins, and even though the teller was in critical condition, the prognosis seemed to be good. But just a few minutes ago, I read something that gave this story a turn that I don't think anyone wanted to see.
The woman lost her twins earlier today.
The news story was short on details, but does it really matter?
The police haven't caught the shooter yet, but they have arrested some of his accomplices. I am guessing that the district attorney (or whatever they call the prosecutors in Indiana) are going to be looking forward to bringing this case to trial. And I would like to think that those accomplices would realize that their best chances lie with telling the police everything they know about the shooter.
As for the shooter himself, I have split feelings. On the one hand, I'm guessing that the local jail population would probably hold someone who shot a pregnant woman and killed her babies with the same high esteem that they would a child molester. On the other hand, I am hoping that he gives the Indianapolis police a reason to make sure this case never goes to trial.
As of Tuesday, I thought this person was the worst possible scum this planet has to offer. Now, I just want to see him dealt with, and thrown into a dumpster with the rest of the trash.
