OPEN: JANUS FILE #0022

She was hitting on me. She was hitting on me, and I didn't realize that she was until some 30 minutes after we parted company.

Yes, that makes me look oblivious, clueless, and maybe even a little pathetic. But I have learned to accept that the vast majority of women don't find me particularly attractive. They certainly don't come on to me. Well, they don't do it often enough for me to recognize it in realtime.

I don't know why I didn't respond to her overtures. It wasn't because of her looks, because she was attractive. She might not have been supermodel gorgeous, but she definitely didn't need a paper bag over her head.

She wasn't doing anything that would I would consider an immediate turnoff. At the same time, she wasn't doing anything that would turn me on, either. Hence my somewhat neutral reaction to the signals she was sending.

To start with, she was wearing sandals. And they were really ugly sandals, too. All right, I tend to think of all sandals as being ugly, but these were the ugliest of the ugly. The most polite description I can give would be to call them high-heeled flip-flops. Peg Bundy would give these a single glance and say that they looked tacky.

Then there was the problem with stockings. She wasn't wearing any stockings -- THAT was the problem. I'm sorry, but if a woman is going for anything more than just a casual look, bare legs with a dress or skirt isn't going to turn me on. That is a turnOFF that can't be countered even with a megadose of Viagra. I really don't care if you're wearing pantyhose, thigh-highs, or a garter belt with stockings, just wear some form of hosiery. It always looks better to me.

She was also wearing nail polish. I've never been particularly attracted to nail polish, whether it was worn on the fingernails or toenails. At least she was wearing the same color on both. I've seen some women wear one color of polish on their fingernails, and a completely different color on their toenails, and I have yet to find it appealing in any way.

To be fair, there were a few things going for her on the plus side. She wasn't trying to set a world record for how many times her ears were pierced. Each ear was pierced only once, and her earrings were nice and small. Close to the ear. Nothing else was pierced, either. Nothing in the eyebrow, nose, lip, or tongue. (And if she had a piercing that I couldn't see, I don't want to know about it.) No tattoos -- at least, there were no visible tattoos. (Again, I really don't want to know about any hidden tattoos.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that she wasn't doing anything wrong, but she also wasn't doing anything right. At least, she wasn't doing anything right if was hoping for me to respond to her overtures.
