I have been officially offered, and I have accepted, full-time employment as a server at the Cafe Bistro in the Nordstorm department store in Downtown San Francisco.
I will be paid $8.50 an hour plus tips, which, according to the manager, should be at least $100 a shift, upwards of $200-300 on weekend shifts. I will also get benefits like health insurance, paid time off, 401K, meals and a store discount (20% I think).
Last time I did waitering jobs back in B-lo the hourly base pay was $3.30.
It's not in my profession, but it will set me up in a way that will allow me to find the type of human services job that I really want and not appear so desperate in interviews. I can also continue to make inroads by volunteering at agencies where I'd really like to work.
It will pay the bills and then some.
I'm quite happy, and I'd never thought I'd feel this way about going back into a serving job.
