The Importance of Hyphens or the Coffee in My Cream

May 25, 2008 02:27

I can't say that I have a particularly innocent mind, but sometimes I am a bit naive.  Like waiting for 2 months for Medifacts to call me, all the time thinking that the job may still be mine.  Or like my current encounter with Craigslist.

I look for jobs on Craigslist because there are some really cool writing gigs that you just won't find in the Post.  It's a little more personal, too.  My resume doesn't really make me sound like a productive member of society, not having a real job since 2001.  I just need someone to meet with me so that I can impress them.  The kind of business this caters to is freelance work.

So when I see an ad for a film reviewer, I jump on it and send out an inquiry.

Now...I thought the ad was looking for a film critic who was an adult, as opposed to a child or teen critic.

After all, the ad read "Adult Film Reviewer".
Here I am thinking "Hey, I'm an adult.  I like to review movies!" and I promptly applied for the gig.
SO then it hits me.
They want an adult-film critic.  Like a critic of pornography.  The exact opposite of what I want.

So I may be on an over-sized, multi-colored box praising a pron film.  All because of a hyphen.

Also, coffee Haagen-Daas, where have you been all my life?  How have I gone 26 years without tasting coffee ice cream?  It's delicious.
