Well damn. Jansen had gotten himself into some tight spots before, but this? This was the first time he'd gotten himself knocked out cold in pursuit of something shiny.
"I usually have more class than this, geez," Jansen muttered to himself, grumpy before fully conscious. He tried to remember what had happened; Kaim and the gang (his glorious self included) were traipsing some ancient ruins in a haunted blood-forest (regular day, for them) and Jansen had spotted something pretty and valuable-looking and had decided to make the grab when no one was looking.
It was just a hand mirror, but it looked like real gold, and the handle was encrusted with sparkling gems. Best of all, it was handy-dandy small enough to fit into Jansen's pocket without anyone else knowing. He slipped away from the others, made the grab--
Then he blacked out.
And now he was here (wherever here was). For starters, 'here' featured a very big (and very broken) mirror. The space around him was damp and dark, the walls were of mossy stone, and if Jansen had to guess he'd assume he was in some kind of cave. Light trickled in from somewhere above, enough for the mage to catch sight of himself in the broken shards of the mirror.
He spent a moment dusting off his clothes and fixing his hair.
"Damn it, Seth's really gunna kick my ass for this one," he muttered. The worst part was that he didn't have the hand mirror.
"Kaim? Seth? You guys had better not have left me!" his voice echoes off the walls, flat and unamused slow turning distorted. Jansen huffed, adjusted the bag on his hip, and picked up his ornate staff. "Geez, I gotta do everything around here, when does a guy get a break? It's always work, work, work..."
Janen trotted up the crumbling stone steps before him (the broken mirror had been at the center of a circular dip in the ground) in time to see some movement shifting at the mouth of the cave's next room.
"Oh, there you are. For a second there I thought I was in some big--"
And it was a swarm of giant spiders.
"TROUBLE."
