Wow... fuck you Michael Goldfarb

I don't pay a huge amount of attention to the presidential campaign idiocy that is going on but somebody called out my people and I have something to say about it.

Michael Goldfarb, on John McCain's website, www.johnnccain.com

"It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman's memory of war from the comfort of mom's basement, but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others. ... But as Swindle said, this is a "desperate group of people trying to make something out of nothing."

I take great offense to that. I didn't read what was in the rest of the post/article for a long time because this really makes me angry.

People do not find this journal by chance so I know you remember what it was like in high school or what your neighbors/"friends"/parents/siblings thought of your anime/manga/j-rock/dr. who/Trek/gaming/whatever habit/interest/obsession. You were Different and there weren't many people who were willing to try to understand Different. You eventually figured out who your real friends were through some painful trial and error. Do you tell people at work what you do during those Thursday - Sunday blocks you use your vacation hours on? You know what lonely really is. I know that you heard that same kind of ignorant bullshit that Goldfarb wrote above all the time. Perhaps you still hear it. It was ignorant and wrong when I heard it the early 80's, and it was still the same in the 90's and evidently it's still the same thing now. That they're still insulting us about D&D is a clear sign that they haven't moved on, haven't become any more than they were in 1981, and haven't the decency or intelligence to even get up to date. That they post this on the Internet - which we built for them - thinking that we won't see or care or respond is a big mistake. Their lives are made possible by us, by our tech support and design, by our creation of their entertainment and technology.

I certainly hope that Mr. McCain does not support Goldfarb in this kind of thinking and that McCain terminates him for this. If he doesn't, or ignores this, then the Geeks/Nerds/etc.of the nation need to think very carefully about who they want to run their government.
