I was so close to ticking off everything on my weekend checklist! All I had left was to reread my wingfic before sending it for beta work (yes! I finished writing it! :D ) and write my Sherlock Holmes squeee post that I have been keeping in for the last couple weeks.
And then I decided to update my iPhone to the latest OS5. WHYYYYYY. Five hours later, after trying about twenty workarounds, I have an empty iPhone running on OS5, but I still haven't recovered anything from my backup. I did a backup before I actually updated the operating system, but that doesn't matter, because iTunes insists that the backup did not work, never mind that it completed successfully. It doesn't matter that I can see the backup, and that I can pull a few files from the backup using a third party software.
So I can sync my music and apps again, and I wisely transferred my photos and videos over separately, but all 120 of my contacts are gone and my old messages and other little bits and pieces. Eaauurgh.
I should have waited a month later, after Apple ironed out most of their bugs or other iPhone users start posting about their workarounds. I Googled the fuck out of this issue and it seems like a few other people have this problem as well, but no one has a solid solution.
I'm not without hope yet. There's still a couple ways I haven't tried, but I'm just going to get my phone back to its basics for now (I will cry if I have to face a Monday without my music and ebooks). a;slkjdlasjflaslfkasj, damn you, Apple! *shakes fist* /first-world-problems
Edit: Stanza doesn't work on OS5, and apparently the whole world knew but me. I'll wave goodbye to my ebooks then. ;___;
