Supernatural Convention Update, Day Two
We're back at the Supernatural/Smallville/Buffy convention, and we're having a blast! Jared and Jensen took the stage, alone and together, and they were even more funny, affable and adorable than we expected. We'll have a more in-depth report later, but here are some highlights:
* Jared and Jensen really play off each other well -- it was great to watch them joke around. Jared broke into Jensen's session with a question from an anonymous source: "How do you respond to allegations that my character, Sam is better-looking, smarter, taller, younger and just better?" "You have to ride shotgun," Jensen shot back.
* When Jensen rejoined Jared onstage, and brought out another chair to sit in, his chair was taller. Hee!
* Master Sergeant Kevin Wise, a Special Forces soldier, presented the guys with a letter from General David Petraeus, commander of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, as well as honorary Special Forces coins from his unit. Supernatural is the most requested DVD among armed forces personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan! The guys were amazed and touched, and presented Wise with a shooting script, signed by the cast and crew.
* Jensen came back on stage wearing a Jared t-shirt. "I have never been more attracted to your torso, Jensen," Jared said.
* A fan tried to ask Jensen about Dean's necklace, and he cut her off -- "I don't know!" he said, mock-sorrowfully. Jensen wanted Dean to have stuff, he said, and before they shot the first episode, he and the costume designer just dumped out a box of all the stuff she's collected from previous shows, and they picked out stuff that looked cool. "Kripke said 'OK, we'll come up with a reason he has all those things,'" Jensen said. "He has not." The ring, however, he identified as Dean's beer-opening ring, so he didn't need to carry a bottle opener. Hee!
* Jared did a killer Jensen impression -- and then Jensen returned the favor when he got back on stage.
* They guys indulged the fans and started talking with their real Texas accents. Again, the crowd went wild.
* The scene in Tall Tales where Dean stuffed his face with caramels? Not CGI. Those really were Jensen's distended cheeks. It was his idea to stuff his face, and he regretted it -- all the sugar inthe caramels made his tongue start swelling and his cheeks go numb.
* Jared laughed so hard at fan questions and reactions, he occasionally had to wipe his eyes.
That's it for now. It was great seeing the guys, Samantha and Fredric, and it was even more fun meeting so many dedicated fans. We'll have lots more from the convention later on -- full reports on all the presentations, interviews with fans, news about fan videos, and more! Keep checking back!
