I thought you'd want to see this cartoon from the ACLU. I'm supporting the ACLU's campaign to reform the Patriot Act. We are at a critical juncture and I am hoping that you will help me protect our civil liberties.
Desperate for a win in the public eye, the Bush Administration is usurping the Patriot Act debate at the last instant. The Administration has strong-armed lawmakers into re-drafting a final Patriot Act reauthorization bill that actually makes the Patriot Act even worse than the original Patriot Act bill that was passed with virtually no debate, reversing months of bipartisan negotiations that attempted to deliver real reform.
A final vote is expected in the House and Senate THIS WEEK, so we need you to call your Members of Congress right now and tell them to vote NO on the Patriot Act reauthorization bill.
The Patriot Act doesn’t have to be a fact of life, not like this. We have an opportunity to stop Congress from expanding government surveillance and removing proper checks and balances.
