As someone who does not know when he will see his hoem again due to Katrina, I admit Nagin coudl have doen better, so could Blanco, and Bush coudl hav edoen more sure, but to hsi credit he declared Mississippi and Louisiana disaster areas on Sunday, so he did some forethought.
As for Huey Long, he was elected partially due to the flooding in 1927, and the class related issues there, and he was a demagouge, a crook, a socialist, and a junior league Mussolinni. I consider his assassin Dr. Weiss a courageous hero, and my father's parenst were delighted by his death.
Huey did a lot of good for LSU and in improving Louisiana, but Napoleon implemented many reforms, Mussolinni drained the Pontine Marshes, etc. I admit that the levy system needs major reforms, and I like teh diea of reelasing sediment back to the swamps. I think that it is an excellent idea and can solve problems created by the levee (a great device but in need of major improvements).
Ray Nagin is my kind of Democrat. He was a Cox Executive and was lambasted by opponents for being fiscally conserative. They tried to portray as a closet Republican (calling him Ray Reagan), because he donated money to Bush's 2000 campaign, a good strategic move if he did become mayor. He was also accused of being in the Nation of Islam whcih is silly since he was the only Roman Catholic in the race, and has generally been more popular among whites in New Orleans than blacks. Considerng the last Mayor Marc Morial (or past mayors liek Sleeping Sydney, Marc's dad or Mary Landrieu's dad), I'm glad we had Nagin and not one of the past jokers.
Kathleen Blanco was not my choice for Governor, but she is a socially conservative pro-life Democrat. I support her decision not to let Bush federalize the National Guard..Bush is a Republican and shame on him for wanting to step on the Teth Ammendment.
Mike Brown was a bad choice. Granted it was Hillary among others who wanted FEMA to be a part of Homeland Security, but I would prefer Bush pick a Republican with good disaster handling experience.
As for Bush, I'd have Airforce One load up teh remaining people and fly them to Crawford and ask Cindy Sheehan if she can put her whining aside and useher network to help these people. It would have been a great move by Bush and he never used that opportunity.
But right now, I don't care about who let the ball drop. I'm glad to be safe. I hope the poorest in New Orlenas can be relocated to better environments and eased into at least the lower middle class or even better.
As for Kanye West, he's a glory hound idiot, and I don't like rap anyway. I'd love to have Jesse Jackson drowned in the fetid water in New Orleans, and Michael Moore can be used as a flotation device :)
