with an askgkhjsfhs!!! episode.

Dead Man Walking

Well, that was freakish and creepy.

1. The beginning when Owen is on the autopsy table was really hard to take. Though why they needed an autopsy when every single one of them had seen him die is a bit beyond me.

2. I want to know more about the little psychic girl now. And what favour Jack is going to owe her.

3. The scene of Jack playing tiptoe through the Weevils was very good and very tense.

4. *drumroll* DUM DUM DUUUUUM - the pair to the Risen Mitten finally makes its appearance. Saw that coming from a mile away but still an effective reveal, mostly because everyone else is so freaked out about Jack using it.

5. Owen freaking out on the autopsy table was very good. I really like Burn - I hope the ending of this storyline isn't him leaving for good. And everyone's reactions to him still being alive after the 2 minutes were up were good too.

6. The disorientation when Owen spaced out was unpleasant in an interesting way. And black eyes are always creepy in a character. Always.

7. I loved, loved, loved the scene in the police cell between Jack and Owen. It was funny (talk about projectile vomiting) and moving and kind of sweet.

8. Effective use of Weevils once more, and oh look - Owen is their God! Or maybe not...

9. And the badness is revealed - Owen is becoming Death, and no Jack really shouldn't have used the glove. I wonder if he really would have done it if little miss psychic had warned him what would happen. And once again we are in the territory of one of Torchwood fucking up and causing the problem in the first place. I don't like this device, but it does follow the idea of Jack not being able to let go of his team, that he needs them after the Valiant.

10. A glove/disembodied hand attacking people? Always cool. I thought the aged Martha was good as well, and I liked the jump cut where it kills Jack and suddenly we're with him reviving at the hospital.

11. The hospital stuff reminded me a little bit of Killed By Death in S2 BtVS. But was slightly less disturbing - das Kindestod was far, far more traumatising than a black cloud with a skeleton in it. Not that the TW Death wasn't pretty creepy, mind, and the bit where the patient sees all the others starting to flatline was very effective.

12. And Owen fights death. A little bit silly, but it worked okay. I would have preferred it if the "faith" to defeat it had been a little more philosophical, but as a resolution it was all right. Poor Tosh though - first Owen blows off her declaration (though she was totally going to take it back anyway, so he kind of had a point) and then he kissed her to get the door device.

13. And now Owen wants to make reparation. Interesting lead-in to next week's, though I'd have said the deaths were on Jack's conscience, not his. Owen didn't exactly have a say in it, after all.

In conclusion: meep! Again. I'm not sure I can take much more of this...
