The Doctor was bothered. Not only had he recently been cryptically warned of someone knocking four times, but a phone call he had just received from Captain Jack had decidedly put him on edge.
As he moved around the console adjusting the TARDIS's flight, he found himself tapping out a strange rhythm. Suddenly, he realized he could hear an echo of it. Four echoes to be precise. He spun around to see six teenage girls smiling at him.
"What?"
"What?" they echoed.
"What?!" he exclaimed again, staring at them.
One of them giggled and he turned his attention to her. She was of medium height with longish brown hair and wearing a t-shirt that proclaimed "I can spell Raxacoricofallapatorius, can you?” She looked up at him expectantly as he studied her.
"Hello," she suddenly said, startling him into stepping back.
"Hello," he replied, recovering his balance.
"I'm Cloud."
"I'm the Doctor."
She giggled. "I know! And I also know you're a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterberous. Also you're nine hundred and three years old."
He took another unsteady step back. "How..."
One of the other girls, another brunette stepped forward with a smile. "We're the NFA. We know and see everything."
He pulled out his sonic screwdriver and scanned the six girls, frowning at the readings. "B-but you're only humans!"
"Oi!" they chorused.
"Not just humans," another girl, a redhead, said with a smirk. "We're fangirls."
The Doctor thought he felt one of his hearts stutter. "What did you say?"
"Fangirls, my dear Doctor," the tallest girl said.
He wasn't imagining it, one of his hearts was stuttering. He put the sonic screwdriver on the console and tried his most imposing frown on the girls. "A-alright then, you're...fangirls. What are you doing on my TARDIS...and how did you even get in here?!"
The second girl rolled her eyes and held up her hand. Attached to her wrist was...
"Is that Jack's Vortex Manipulator?"
"Of course it is," she replied, smiling. "He very kindly loaned it to us after we hooked him up with Miss Gwen Cooper."
"B-but, Gwen isn't supposed to be with Jack! She's supposed to be with-"
"Don't you dare say it," the six girls shouted at him.
"-Rhys Williams," he finished lamely.
The girls all glared at him and simultaneously pulled matching sonic screwdrivers from their pockets.
"How dare you," the first girl said, raising her device to point at him. "And here I thought I liked you."
"I-I'm sorry!" he stammered, trying to unobtrusively reach for his own screwdriver.
Suddenly, there were four loud knocks on the TARDIS' door, causing him to spin around and stare at it. "B-but we're in space!"
He heard a snicker from behind him and slowly turned to face the girls. They no longer had their sonic screwdrivers pointed at him and were all grinning widely.
"What'd I tell you guys," the second girl said cheerfully. "Stopping off on Coruscant was a great idea! I can do so many awesome pranks now that I've got Jedi powers!"
"Did you see how high he jumped?" the tallest girl asked, obviously trying not to laugh.
"Looked like he was about to go through the ceiling," the redhead replied with a smirk.
The first girl walked over and stood on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear. "That psychic lady on the 200 got the prophecy wrong. It's supposed to go 'she will knock four times', not 'he'."
He moved back quickly and glared at her. "That isn't funny."
"Well, it's true! Sky knocked four times. Prophecy is over!"
"Cloud," the second girl warned. "No interfering with the timeline. We need to have Eleven on time! He," here she motioned towards the extremely confused Doctor, "has to regenerate on time."
"But…but, he's my favorite Doctor!"
"Hey, Nine is my favorite and I had to give him up! Ten has had over four years! It's almost time for him to go too."
The first girl sighed and stepped towards the Doctor. "Oh well, I guess all good things come to an end. Um, do you mind if I..."
He looked down at her suspiciously. "Do I mind if you...what?"
"Can I kiss you?"
"What?!"
"Oh, please? Just once? Pretty please, Doctor?"
"Come on, Doctor, let the girl have her wish," the second girl said.
"I..." He looked into the pleading eyes of the girl and finally decided to give up. "Oh, alright. One kiss, and then you have to leave."
"Fine with me!"
He leaned down towards her slowly, but just as his lips were about to touch hers, he found himself bent over backwards and an extremely happy fangirl was kissing him almost as enthusiastically as Rose had when possessed by Cassandra. Dimly, he could hear camera shutters clicking as the other girls documented the moment. A few moments later the girl let him go and he stumbled back to land on the jump seat.
The girl skipped back to the others and smiled over at him. "Thank you so much, Doctor!"
"Uh..."
"Bye!" she called as the first girl pressed a button on the vortex manipulator and they disappeared.
It was a few moments before his head had cleared enough for him to stand, but he still lightly held onto the console as he moved around, setting a new destination. He was going to have to have a little talk with Captain Jack Harkness.
