about songwriting

I talked to my former bass player today about songwriting and having songs that don't work at a structural level because of fatal problems in the verse or whatever, and he said that he has loads of songs that are unfinished because of different issues. I told him that I had many songs like that too, in fact "I have more fragments than a David Mamet play".

He's not a theatre geek, so maybe that one didn't land with him, but I thought it was funny....
