Once upon a time there was a young woman we'll call Jane. She was the only child of a mighty king. She was just a child and still had not put away childish things. Above all she loved to sing and play with her little tamborine. One day the mighty king had to go away and war with his enemies. His daughter loved him and missed him dearly. She sat at home every day looking out the window waiting for her father or word of him to come to her. Finally after many seasons her father appered on the horizon and approached the home. Jane sprung from her post at the window and rushed to greet her returning father with tamborine in hand. But as he swept her up in his arms he began to cry. She began to weep to and told him how happy she was he was home. He set her down and told her that they were not tears of joy. While he was away he missed home so much that he promised god that when he came home he would sacrifice the first person who came out of his home to god...
Two months later the great King Japhthah the conquerer of the Ammonites kept his promise to god and sacrificed his daughter Jane to God.

The moral of this story: Be careful how much you love your parents?
(adapted from Judges 12:29-40)
