I stopped in season 6. I knew it was dead for me when I didn't even come back for LARRY FISHBURNE. I fucking LOVE Larry Fishburne.
I was one of the few people I knew personally who liked Sara, but I was always very DNW about her and Gil. Of course, if it were up to me they'd all either be gay or clergy, so. :D
ITA. It would be so easy to dismiss Nick as "the nice guy," or the Everyman. Which he is, or at least started out that way. But his character growth was nothing short of mesmerizing -- to see someone come into his own as he did, to overcome so many terrible blows, to recover believably -- I think you are absolutely right.
(In no small measure due to GE's portrayal of him, no doubt. But still.)
That is exactly what I love about Nick as GE does him. He should be the blockhead Aggie. In the hands of anyone else, he would be. But instead, the character turns tropes inside out. It's not just his performance, which is great, but how he's scripted and directed. One of my friends said he's coded as a woman, and he is. Not many guys could carry that off.
I was always on the fence about Sara. I felt as if I should like her -- strong, opinionated woman, etc. But she was always very abrasive, even at times when I felt I empathized with her situation. Partly JF's voice, I think -- shallow as it sounds, her voice grates. I fell in love with her a few times -- esp. in GD -- but I am so DO NOT WANT about her and Gil, it makes my head spin around. EUW EUW EUW. I just. Yeah. No.
I really like Larry Fishburne, too. But I've never seen him on CSI. Follow GRISSOM?!? NO EFFING WAY.
