On Group Suicides ("Let's Die Together!")

Jul 04, 2008 13:43

Nabbed from a February 2007 blog entry of mine:

Did you know that in Japan, people actually perform group suicides?
Yes they do.
Apparently, these young people meet in chatrooms or websites and form groups and such where they meet up in person and eventually do collective seppuku.

I can imagine one depressed teen talking with another somwhere in a student lounge in Japan.

Teen1: Hey, I feel like dying, wanna join me?
Teen2: *looks at him funny then nods*

They say [I have my resources, and they don't want to be revealed...hehe] that the reason for this is because of the difficulties they face in education. Pressure. Get good grades, or else.

Teen1: I got a B on my Biology. I want to die.
Teen2: I got a C on my English. I want to die as well.
Teen1: Oh really? Let’s die together!
Teen2: Sure, I’ll call the others. They might to join as well.” *runs off to find other suicidal teens*.

A friend mentioned in passing that the reason they do that is because they are bored.
They are rich, bored and have nothing else to do. They wile away and waste their lives staring at the ceiling. And so…

Bored Teen1: I’m tired of playing games in my XBox. So I’ll slit my wrist.
Bored Teen2: I have nothing to do. I’ll asphyxiate myself.
Bored Teen1: That sounds super. I think I’ll do that instead.
Bored Teen2: Great! Let’s schedule a get-together. I know others who  would want to do the same thing.
*they run off to the sunset*

This is the result of having too much to do in too little time…

...and this eventually became my final research paper for APS Japan studies.

Anyway, I've been getting a lot of stuff about death lately (a lot of someones I know is either dying, dead or planning on ending his/her life)... yes, that's it. FUCK.

don't knock it, mine
