Smoke stench

Somehow, somewhere, there is a cigarette smoke stench in here. I can't say for sure where it's coming from, but I have a suspicion. Of course, no one else can smell it, but it is making my nose and throat burn and giving me a headache. I've been seeing my neurologist for the recurrence of my chronic headaches and he's been tweaking my meds - it seems like I have gotten even *more* sensitive to environmental factors. I've always been able to smell very faint odors, but this is getting ridiculous.

There is some thought that the smell appeared after I tried rearranging the pair of bookcases I have cookbooks in; reducing it to one and moving one out of the kitchen. A large number of them I inherited from my Mom, who smoked like a chimney. The bookcase that stayed in the kitchen also came from her. The really odd thing is that these have been sitting here for 15 years without any problems! Well, we've boxed up the cookbooks, and moved everything into the garage for now. I can't tell any difference yet.

I have a couple of bowls of vinegar out to try to absorb some of the stench. We've been wiping things down. Tomorrow I'm going to move everything away from where my easy chair is and wipe the walls, windows, shades, floor, even the chair itself with a vinegar solution to try to kill this. I can't relax with this around. I'm really hoping that I will find some kind of culprit hiding somewhere when I move everything since I don't see a change yet.

Anyone have any ideas for killing cigarette smoke smells? Obviously I have never allowed any in the house and I cannot fathom where it might have come from. When I finish posting this I'm going to go to bed and get away fro the smell. I hope renewed energy in the morning and vigorous cleaning will eliminate this scourge form my life.

health, odors
