Been busy, in some cases just spinning my wheels, but that's life.
Darkover gave me a great chance to discuss my embroidery with [headdesk] (severe case of CRS on her name this morning, but she is fantabulous). I learned a number of things that have helped clarify my path, for which I am exceptionally grateful.
One of the main ones concerns early period embroidery. The stitches involved are technically not all that difficult. Care in execution and you are good to go. The challenge is really the research and documentation of appropriate designs and uses more than embroidery skill. I enjoy doing it, and the thrill of the hunt is satisfying. But to spread my wings, I need to tackle more difficult forms.
I feel that I have made a good start with the Elizabethan sampler challenge. My first piece, and to some extent it shows. But I have learned a lot, and continue to do so. I have a lot left to do, and I plan to include even more of the more difficult stitches. I am a bit constrained as I am making a sampler, and the examples I have only feature these stitches in small amounts. To really get to the meat of the good stuff, I will have to reinvigorate my coif project. I am glad that it fell by the wayside for so long - I have learned so much more that I needed to start over anyway. I still like my main design, but the execution (which is why I threw it in the corner) lacks a lot. So it will be back to the drawing board and I will have all those lovely flowers and beasties.
I appear to have trouble making stitching time, and I want the sampler done for Kingdom A&S. And in classic ADD fashion, my next project needs to be the Opus Anglicanum one with the morses for the Storvik Heraldic cloaks. If I want to have them done and wear them before we step down, they need to percolate to the top of the to do list. I also have this kick ass frame that I think just screams for a piece of Or Nue.
I think that the only side trips have to be just the Queen's favors project with EGGS. And getting that mythical web site up. And write those articles for the Oak that have been gestating. Gee, I had better get a move on if I'm going to get this done!
