Having read the books this was definitely better than S2 too ;) but... meh, with S2 I always thought that they wrote it in a way that if you didn't know the source material you wouldn't get half of it, so. And yeaaaaah I really would like to hope that they'd tone it down, also because other than that there's also the Theon storyline which is just going to get worse in that sense and I can't even complain because that part's sadly canon -.- then again I'm starting to think that the naked women quota is inescapable :( UTD, as a book, was interesting mostly because it's more about the effects on the community rather than the scifi, so I suppose that it's why it can seem whacky (also I hear they changed the ending so I don't know where they're going with it either), but the thing selling it were the character interactions and I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if they had kept my favorite character (who was actually huge..) and didn't change Julia almost completely, but in itself it's enjoyable I suppose. Also pfffff in comparison to Lost this is a piece of cake ;)
The thing is that... he has like fifteen trials going on but he made specific laws so that 90% of them wouldn't ever come to an end, so the fact that one actually came to an end is plenty miraculous ;) but yeah, we usually do try to put them on trial... IF it works. At this point I'm just hoping he escapes to Antigua or somewhere else where he has some villas and fucks off for good :(
