1. Blade Runner: no one is probably much surprised here. XD Though considering my thing for dystopias no one should be surprised that it's my favorite movie, but anyway. There's nothing I don't love about that movie. The setting is gorgeous (if utterly haunting), it isn't random wacky sci-fi but actually gives you some serious stuff to think about, the plot is imo flawless (and even if I like the voice off of the first version I'll have to go with saying I like the director's cut better) and fuck but that scene on the rooftop at the end is the best thing I've ever seen. Or close to it. Also: I always was on team replicants all along (even though the ending of the director's cut probably makes the difference not so relevant), all the dialogue is spot-on, the whole noir aspect of it just won me over and hey, you also have some pretty excellent eye candy in there. (I mean, Harrison Ford AND Rutger Hauer? Not passing, thank you.) Now I just wish Ridley Scott actually did all his movies at least like this one...
2. Casablanca: or, it was my favorite movie before Blade Runner and no one is ever going to move it from second position anyway. ;) And it's epic. I love every single stupid thing about it. I love that it's objectively made of a ton of cliches but that they work together so well, I love EVERYONE IN IT because dammit no one makes movies like they did in the forties (my trenchcoat obsession is also Humphrey Bogart's fault), I love every single stupid line in there, I totally buy the plot, THE ENDING IS JUST MYTHICAL and again, Humphrey Bogart. And Ingrid Bergman. And Paris. And the ending. And the disillusioned anti-hero that finds out he isn't as disillusioned anymore. I don't even know how many times I watched that movie but I never get tired of it.
Annnd a third... sorry, I have to cheat and do two because I can't possibly pick.
3a. Some Like It Hot: there are a bunch of things I could gush about regarding this movie, but it all mostly comes down to one, which would be that it's the most hilarious thing that has ever been shot and no one convinces me of the contrary. There isn't a second that feels out of place - there's some seriously great pacing there. And.. THE REST. I mean, mafia, crossdressing men that totally wouldn't pass for women but somehow DO, Marilyn Monroe probably having the best role she ever had, there isn't a thing in this that doesn't work. Also Jack Lemmon is immense and it has the best single line that ever ended a movie ever, if one asks for my very sincere opinion, and anyway Billy Wilder comedies > any other comedies. I love it to freaking pieces, it totally still is funny in spite of being shot half a century ago, and to be entirely honest I think that if you take ten random recent supposedly funny movies they won't make a tenth of the gloriousness that is this one.
3b. A Perfect World: or, I needed a Clint Eastwood movie in this or I wouldn't be a serious person. And A Perfect World is still my overall favorite of his, and it's also overlooked a lot of times for some reason I don't get in spite of Kevin Costner being in it, so I'm going with it. Now, in spite of my general dislike for children, one of my bulletproof tropes is young-ish guy who's also a criminal but isn't exactly a bad person gets stuck with a kid for any reason and they actually become friends (see The Professional, too), and this one? Hits it with hammers. It also helps that Clint Eastwood can direct a movie and the actor playing the kid is too adorable for this world and not at all whiny, but back to the point. Also it's hard to say why I love it without spoiling pretty much everything, but I just love how it fucks with your perspective from beginning to end (bad guy kidnaps kid but maybe he's not so bad, or at least it turns out that he understands the kid more than his family does, the police is supposed to be good guys but it's not a given, Clint's character should be above everyone but his key quote is that he doesn't know anything and so on). It has some seriously wrenching dialogue, the ending is imo some of the best cinema Clint ever shot period and damn but Kevin Costner never acted so well, if you ask me. ;) Also I love how the title is the most cynical one that Clint ever chose I think.
2. I DID manage to fill one of those porn battle prompts I had eyed! :D Now I just need to finish the other three I have going on. And apparently I eyed a Jon/Ygritte prompt that won't leave me the hell alone. and clearly all the Jon/Sam prompts are show-based, but I'm tempted to cheat and write one anyway. If I do it without too much dialogue and taking the actors into account I should manage to sell it, right? Also apparently this round I'm stalking ASOIAF prompts, what.
3. I also have a bunch of things to actually DO before leaving for a week next Sunday (though I should be still enough around) so maybe I should start DOING them. And work on fic that isn't porn battle prompts.
4. I wanted to link that Castiel + Ghostfacers video but they're apparently taking it down from everywhere? :(((( that's such a pity because it was the most hilarious thing in the history of hilarity.
5. All right, meme is done, crap to do waits for me, so I'll just go do it and hope to be done before tomorrow. If I also manage to go sell some crappy books/dvds that I don't need and get some money out of them, even better.
