two fic memes, sorta.

1. First thing, happy birthday slybrunette! <3 I hope you're having an awesome day and that next year is all kinds of fantastic for you. ♥ and if you want to prompt me or something I'll see what I can do when my two-exams-in-a-week madness is over.

2. Fanfic tropes meme stolen from bachlava, zelda_zee and aurilly.

Genderswap - It depends. If it's a temporary switch and it's well done, I can read it. If it's an AU where male character A has always been female, huge no.

Bodyswap - Same thing as genderswap. It's not exactly my kink but I've read some good ones so I'm not saying no on principle. Well, the only one I ever really liked was a SPN fic set in pre-S1 where Dean bodyswapped with Jess and I guess it was sort of genderswap too but it was the fic where there's character development going on, a good plot, great writing and generally it was very good, so I can't say no on principle even if it's not exactly my thing.

Drunk!fic - YES! I love drunk fic. Mostly because either it leads to good sex or to h/c or to heartbreaking declarations or to crack, and all of these are a-okay with me.

Huddling together for warmth - Sure thing. Any excuse for huddling works for me.

Undercover in a gay bar - If it's a fandom where undercover work is at all reasonable, then yes. -> what she said.

Pretending to be married - Dunno. It doesn't tick my fancy at all but if someone recced one to me I'd give it a try.

Secretly a virgin - Depends. If it's done right then it can be awesome, (*cough* Castiel and the den of iniquity *coughcough*), if there's no reason whatsoever for the character to be a virgin then stay away from me. But when it's done right duh, it's such a huge kink of mine.

Amnesia - I ♥ amnesia fics. They're some great angst fodder. And they give you a new perspective when writing/reading characters. So yeeesss here.

Cross-dressing - YESYESYESYES ANYTIME. I LOVE CROSSDRESSING. And no one writes it and it makes me sad. Hell, people, it's hot! (And I've watched Some Like It Hot too many times but that's not the point.)

Forced to share a bed - Why not? All the excuses are good.

Aliens made them do it - Generally not my thing, especially when ALIENS made them do it. If something/someone else made them do it I could see, but aliens, uh, nope.

Wingfic - ha, I like it. Always liked it even when the character doesn't canonically have wings. IDK what's with me but it can be awesome.

Mpreg - HUGE NO. Sorry, to each their own, but mpreg is exactly the thing that will put me off a fic forever and ever. I just can't deal with mpreg, especially if graphic. Just, no.

Though if it's vampire!Locke/Karl, then I'm all over it.

Mistakenly assumed to be gay - Not what I'd search for either and I've rarely read ones which pulled it off, so I'd say no.

Let's play truth or dare - Not exactly in my top ten kinks but I like it when I read it (and if it's well done), but I prefer I Never.

Mary Sue fic - Only if it's crack and MS dies, otherwise thanks but NO.

Aphrodisiacs - If it brings good sex, sure.

Curtain fic - You mean domestic fluff...? Er. Well. I have a weakness for happily ever after fluff so I guess yes, even if extreme fluff will put me off.

Hurt/Comfort - YES YES YES. COMES JUST SLIGHTLY BEFORE CROSSDRESSING IN THE LIST. There's nothing like good h/c. <333

Apocalypse fic - HELL YES, BRING IT ON. I love apocalyptic fic.

Someone has a baby - Uh. Considering that I read slash, NO. I'll make a few exceptions if the fic is good and if the baby is adopted or something, but considering that most baby fic translates into mpreg... you got the idea.

Baby!fic - Same as before. Also, I don't like babies. (Which doesn't mean that I won't melt if it's Dean dealing with kids because that melts me in the show. And it also means that anything in Lost concerning Aaron before he's at least fourteen usually gets a skip here.)

Telepathic soulbonding - Generally no, but if talking Dean/Castiel I've read one which was just stunning so uh, er, I can make exceptions.

Werewolves mate for life - No. Really, no. The mating for life thing is ewww. You can love your partner for life I guess, but mating... no. Also I don't read fic about werewolves.

3. Other fic meme. This was stolen from, uh, a bunch of people.

I'm not counting I've Been Everywhere here because I started posting it in 2008.

My favorite story this year (of my own): Tie. One is The Everlasting Yes And No (Lost, Jack/Boone), which might be ridiculous because it's barely 300 words, but I think it's where I managed to nail everything I wanted to nail. I got the pairing down like I wanted, I got the style down like I wanted and it managed to say everything I wanted to say. The second is There Will Come Soft Rains which is my WWIII sorta apocalyptic Dean/Castiel AU which I wrote on a total whim and for once with the entire story clear in my head which was the fulfillment of a lot of my fanficcing dreams (aka: write an epic-length story set in an apocalyptic wasteland, dealing with a nuclear fallout, where I took my time to develop the characters and even managed to write some decent h/c).

My best story this year: The Best Laid Schemes Of Mice And Men Often Go Awry for Lost hands down. I think that it's the best Sawyer POV I'll ever write, I stuck to the format I wanted and managed my 500 words, I managed to pack some content into said 500 words and I just like the idea behind it. For SPN, probably And It Breaks My Heart To See You This Way. It's objectively my best Dean POV, I have a thing for 5x04 and I needed to sorta fix things after that ep, I irrationally like the way I dealed with f!Cas and I think I got the right balance with everything I wanted to be in that fic.

Most popular story this year: ah, finally an easy one. He Loves You (And You Know You Should Be Glad, which has to be my most popular story ever. I mean. It's the only fic I wrote that reached 100 comments and I still have some random people commenting six months after I posted it O_o and someone asked to translate it in Spanish, which for one who used to translate stuff into Italian is an honor, lol. I swear that it went completely beyond my expectations, also because Jimmy was my main POV and he's not the most popular character in SPN fandom. And considering that it took me probably two hours in total to write it it still sort of baffles me, but then again, I won't complain, lol.

Story most tragically underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: tie between It's Hard To Lose And To Pretend (mostly gen, Nirvana!Jack centric fanmix) and Jughead: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (Daniel + various people), who got the same number of comments. Though the first was Nirvana!Jack ranting about grunge music, so I wasn't exactly expecting it to be a hit. Still, I spent quite the time on it and I thought it wasn't a bad story. About the second, I dunno because while the comments I got were flattering it still didn't reach my five comments goal so I don't know if it's because it doesn't make sense, because it was Daniel centric and writing him for me is hard or whatever. I still don't know what to think of it actually, so.. XD

Most fun story: How Castiel Got Lost in LOST (Lost/SPN crossover), because I just had the time of my life writing it. I love my crack and this year I didn't write as much as I wanted, but this one was handed to me on a silver plate and really, I got Castiel to fight Smokey. I didn't get crackier than that.

Most sexy story: er, I think it's definitely Would You Lay With Me, If I Gave Myself To You? (Dean/Castiel). Which has maybe the longest sex scene I wrote this year and well, it was Castiel in the whorehouse so it kind of had to be, but for once I was 100% satisfied with my sex scene and I usually spend years fretting over porn. And it was also Castiel POV which is haaaard for me, so I'd probably go for that. Lost speaking because I need to separate my fandoms, probably A Dream Awaits In Aisle Number Two, or, Jack and Boone have sex in a supermarket because me and Bruce Springsteen are pervs.

Story with single sexiest moment: Jack and Boone having sex on the kitchen counter in And Your Memory Cannot Keep Me Warm But It Never Leaves Me Cold. Generally I find Boone sitting on a kitchen counter or a counter in general a pretty hot image, but idk, I just found that particular part very sexy.

Most unintentionally *telling* story: maaybe True Love Tends To Forget (Dean/Castiel), because it was my first LONG Dean/Castiel fic and probably when I got my real grip on the pairing, but it also was amnesia fic and it ended up probably being a sorta double character study and I hadn't planned on that, but I feel satisfied with it. Maybe I should also claim that fic one of these days.

"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Dreams, which is... Charlie/Jack/Sawyer TENTACLE SEX, and NC17 rated and sadly I didn't skip over anything. I said everything. I can't get wronger than that, lol.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Blame It On A Simple Twist Of Fate (Boone/Juliet): well, I'll say it: I don't like how I write Juliet. I love the character but every time I write her (except this one) I usually never like it. I just think that I don't add anything to the character, which is why this one completely shifted my perceptions. The pairing was odd but seriously, it made so much sense in an AU hindsight that for me writing this meant discovering Juliet as a character through whom I could say something and re-discovering Boone because that's not a version of him I usually write.

Hardest story to write: Devil's Arcade (Lost; Desmond/Sayid, Jack/Sawyer, Boone/Charlie, WWII AU), hands down. While I'm 100% proud of that fic, it was the hardest writing experience ever. The research took me ages and while I was sort of familiar with the time frame anyway it required a serious effort there, the battle scene especially. I'm absolutely satisfied with the final result, but getting there wasn't smooth at all. Also one I wrote for a challenge was sort of like pulling teeth for me because the main prompt was not my kink at all but that one's still secret and I sort of don't dislike too much how it ended up anyway so I'll give it a mention without being too specific.

Worst story: well, Missing Connection (sorta Charlotte/Richard comment fic I wrote for a fic battle) imo was crap. I mean, I liked the pair and I liked the prompt but even if I got nice comments on it whenever I re-read it I just think it goes no-freaking-where at all. It's just pointless and I wrote shorter stuff a lot better. It might be that Richard confuses me most times and I had never written Charlotte, but still. In general, of I think four Jack/Juliet fics/ficlets I wrote this year overall, I probably liked one and the rest was more or less forgettable imo, but it also might have something to do with me not liking how I write Juliet. (The only one I sort of like was a Jack POV actually.)

Easiest story to write: Could be surprising or not, but definitely Staring Into An Abyss (Dark Tower, Roland/Eddie), which shouldn't make sense because it was my first DT fic in English and my first DT fic in years, but I think I needed to get at least one OTP of OTPs fic in English out of my system. It came out easy as pie and writing it was just a pleasure. I should write more DT, dammit, except that there isn't even a fandom if it ever was. *sigh*

Biggest surprise: fic speaking, that the one linked in my most popular fic got such a response. Fic-speaking, Misery Likes Company because seriously, SPN/Good Omens crossover which was ALSO Dean/Crowley when I ship Dean/Cas and Crowley/Aziraphale? I still don't know how I actually put two and two together but I really like how it came out and I'm glad I went with it. Same goes for Fire Of Unknown Origin because seriously, idk what possessed me to choose Jacob/Castiel of all pairings when I wanted to do the porn battle last June but I need to say that a) I'm ridiculously satisfied with it and b) when it turned out that Mark Pellegrino was going to be Lucifer I could say that I ALREADY DID THAT. Take it, Castiel/Lucifer. I arrived before! ;)

Story I'd like to revise: Temptation (Jacob/Boone), because while I do like my idea and I don't exactly dislike the fic I think I could have written it better. Idk, while writing it I really wanted to finish it because I was way behind with the luau and I just feel like it would have been a lot better if I had taken more time to write it. I'm sure that if I did re-write it now it'd be a much better fic.

Story I didn't write but will at some point, I swear: the darned Lost Some Like It Hot AU. I swear I will. I've been wanting to do that for a year. I need to get a uber crossdressing fic out of me before that show is over.

First story you wrote this year: And So It Will Go (Lost, Daniel/Desmond) which I still kind of really like even if I don't understand where it came from. It had a weird tense and that pairing for me is HARD, but still.

Last story you wrote this year: technically it's not my last story, but since the real last one is for an exchange and the names are still seeekrit, you get the second-to-last, which is also the craziest one, which is A Touch Of Infinity which I wrote for aurilly at her crossover exchange and I ended up writing an Heroes crossover which was Adam/Richard/Jacob, or the craziest threesome I'll ever write. And while I hadn't watched Heroes in eons I just had such a great time with it.

4. Why university in Italy is weird: I can't physically put myself in list for my exam on the 15th because it's not on the site (!!!) and for the one on the 11th I had to e-mail the professor because I wasn't getting which one I should have chosen since there were exams for the previous three academic years too and they all had the same name. I had sort of got which one I should have chosen though so I asked him if I had to go for that and the answer was, literally, 'yes + name + surname', all in one line. Er. I don't know if it's normal or if I should feel like I asked for something very, very stupid. :/

5. While _izu_ was here, we watched the Misha bits of 24 S1. While it'll be a LONG time before I find time to actually maybe watch the whole thing, the only comment I have is that buying the original set when it was on sales was a very, very good idea. *licks lips* Well. No. I also have another comment. Now that I've seen Dennis Hopper being Misha's dad I realized that if God turned out to be him in SPN it's be AWESOME. Not gonna happen, I know. *sigh*

6. Uh, I think that the random entry is over. I'll go answer comments, have a shower and then hit the bed because the next two days will be basically cramming, cramming and cramming. And then from the 12th to the 15th it'll be even more cramming. *waves*

fic, meme, the random post, personal, writing, birthday, university, misha collins is too awesome for us
