So, I've been working on this thing for, like, ages. And I swear it was hard. But I made it. And I did everything properly -nods-. Kinda verges also on Boone/Shannon and Jack/Boone (what news!). Also, I sort of did half-recs on each song. Half being the key word.
1.
A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
Okay. That's the first because Boone goes to marches and a song starting with blue eyed son? I mean. But the spirit is all very Boone. IMHO.
2.
Cindy - Bruce Springsteen Oh in this world there ain't another like you
My little candy girl, so hard-hearted and cruel
I think that's what keeps me coming back
I'm a fool for you Cindy and I like it like that
Okay. I'm not supposed to have this song. In fact, it's an outtake which is supposed not to be released officially but hey, I have everything he has and hasn't released and the attitude of this girl? May be named Cindy but to me is Shannon. Also? It's lovely. It sounds like it's from the Stand By Me soundtrack.
3.
Heart of Gold - Neil Young I crossed the ocean
for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind,
it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Don't ask me why I associate this with Boone. I just do. It's irrational but there's just something. And from now, Boone/Shannon galore. Why there's so much of it, IDK really.
4.
Two - Ryan Adams And i'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home
But it takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take only one
Well, my money's no good when i'm up to no good
No good ever comes from it, honest
I got a really good heart
I just can't catch a break
If i could i'd treat you like you wanted me to i promise
This? This is just SO him. Just SO.
5.
Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye - Leonard Cohen I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but now it's come to distances and both of us must try,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye
God. Such a gorgeous song. And it's so them. Really.
6.
The Heartache - Warren Zevon And the darkness falls
And the rain comes down
In the midst of spring
There's a sadness in the heart of things
And the heartache
The risk you run
The chance you take
When you love someone
And the sorrow
For the lonely one
When the heartache comes
This song kinda makes me hurt each time I listen to it, but isn't that just perfect? *sigh*
7.
Forget Her - Jeff Buckley Her love is a rose, pale and dying.
Dropping her petals in land unknown
All full of wine, the world before her, was sober with no place to go.
Don't fool yourself, she was heartache from the moment that you met her.
My heart is frozen still as I try to find the will to forget her, somehow.
She's somewhere out there now
So, this song? Pretty damn best thing Jeff Buckley ever did apart from Hallelujah IMHO. And pretty damn fitting if you ask me ;)
8.
Farewell, Angelina - Joan Baez The machine guns are roaring
the puppets heave rocks
and fiends nail time bombs
to the hands of the clocks.
Call me any name you like
I will never deny it,
But Farewell, Angelina
the sky is erupting
I must go where it's quiet.
I might be cheating because this is Bob Dylan's actually but hey, it's more hers than his since he never sang it and she did. And God, I love her and this song so much and I think it's soo post Hearts and Minds Boone/Shannon.
9.
Sail Away Sweet Sister - Queen Hey little babe you're changing
Babe are you feeling sore?
It ain't no use in pretending
You don't wanna play no more
It's plain that you ain't no baby
What would your mother say?
You're all dressed up like a lady
How come you behave this way?
Sail away sweet sister
Sail across the sea
Maybe you'll find somebody
To love you half as much as me
My heart is always with you
No matter what you do
Sail away sweet sister
I'll always be in love with you
If you don't like Freddie Mercury, don't worry. Hereby, sings Brian May ;) seriously? One of my favorite Queen songs, totally fitting if only for the title and pretty much great.
10.
Lonelier Than This - Steve Earle It doesn't get any lonelier than this
And there's no place I can go
Just the dusty corners that the shadows know
Maybe this is as good as it's gonna get
And I'll always be this way
I'll just wander this world callin' out your name
It doesn't get any lonelier than this
Obligatory Steve Earle song. And totally Boone on the island. IMHO.
11.
Helpless - Patti Smith The chains are locked
and tied across the door,
Baby, sing with me somehow.
Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us
Helpless, helpless, helpless
Cheating again because this is Neil Young's indeed and he did sing it ;) but mmmh, Patti Smith. She does such a beautiful cover of it. Not to mention the point that my man was actually kinda helpless.
12.
I Lost It - Lucinda Williams If I give my heart
Will you promise not to break it?
I think I lost it
Let me know if you come across it
Let me know if I let it fall
Along a back road somewhere
Money can't replace it
No memory can erase it
And I know I'm never gonna find
Another one to compare
This is TOTALLY my Jack/Boone song of default. I just... I mean, I made the connection once and there it stayed. I always hope to fic it one day *sigh*.
13.
All I Want - Joni Mitchell I am on a lonely road and I am traveling
Traveling, traveling, traveling
Looking for something, what can it be
Oh I hate you some, I hate you some
I love you some
Oh I love you when I forget about me
I want to be strong I want to laugh along
I want to belong to the living
While this is my delusional Jack/Boone default song. I mean, it kinda stands for what couldn't happen because of, you know. But however. I could meta about this issue for a week so I'll just cut it here.
14.
Something For The Pain - Bon Jovi Happiness, it's been no friend to me
But forever after ain't what it's all cracked up to be
Yeah, I had a taste, you were my fantasy
But I lost my faith when I hit reality
I don't need no Guru to tell me what to do
When you feeling like a headline on yesterday's news
Heem. Sorry. I needed the obligatory Bon Jovi song. But seriously, this has some of the best lyrics they ever had out and I think it's really, really fitting. And it's also lovely and pretty original for their standards ;)
15.
In My Time Of Dying - Led Zeppelin Jesus, gonna make up my dyin' bed.
Meet me, Jesus, meet me. Meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord. Please meet me with another pair
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Oh, I never did, did no harm.
I've only been this young once. I never thought I'd do anybody no wrong
No, not once.
I really don't need to explain this one, right? *sigh* God. What a song. In the good and the bad sense, the latter given by the context ;)
16.
The Sound of Silence - Simon And Garfunkel Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light that split the night
And touched the sound of silence
So, this is the Boone song IMHO. It's just him. I just can't envision one describing him more perfectly than this does.
17.
Gravedancer - Velvet Revolver Take, take a look around
She's a pretty good dancer
She dances on my grave
Everytime it goes down
Everytime she comes down
Everytime we fall down
She dances all over me
She's the world at my feet
The sun that gives heat
Take a rest and hold her near
Or she'll float away from here
Cause I'm knowing what you fearing
And a sentimental jury
And every mile that guides you
I'll watch over everything
Seriously, the first time I heard this I felt crept out for how fitting it was. And uhm, Scott Weiland here -> sublime.
Aaaaaaaaaand... bonus track!
18.
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life - Monty Python Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle.
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And....
Always look on the bright side of life,
Always look on the bright side of life
If I ever fanmix Charlie, this is going to be the bonus track, too. But seriously, IMHO it's the anthem of Craphole Heaven. Isn't it just? And I need the crack song.
Download the whole thing with covers, arts and whatnot
>>here<< Phew. That was TIRING.
