Summer project

My task for the summer holiday is to seal and paint the garage floor. I began this task earlier in the year when I had a massive clear out of all the stuff surplus to requirements. Clearing the garage has actually been a pretty long and laborious task which I have completed alone apart from having a bike rack fixed to the wall, which my eldest son did.

So Summer project. 'Seal and paint garage floor'

I had a slow first week, have spent one in Portugal with my friend Daniela, where I seem to have contracted some kind of coughing disease which means I'm a touch behind in my schedule. I've not had a decent nights sleep in over 2 weeks.. Obviously the first week was self-inflicted, up late etc but the second week has been spent coughing my lungs up or breathing in steam over the sink at 3 am in a vain attempt to stop the incessant cough.

Anyway, a few weeks into the summer hols and I've actually started. Biggest pain in the arse so far, was shifting all the crap out. Funny isn't it, how all those offers of assistance disappear once the task is actually under way and it took me the best part of yesterday, coughing like a 40 a day smoker, to carry, push or drag the many 'discarded to the darkest depths of the garage' objects, to a new temporary abode.

I bought the paint months ago thinking it'd be a case of just throwing paint over the bare floor with a roller, but no. The floor needs to be sealed first and this is the stage at which I am currently at.

The PVA seal was actually pretty easy.. I just diluted it in a bucket and brushed it over the floor with the kitchen broom. It's incredible how much difference it's made the the surface already and it was such a simple job was done and dry enough to walk on in a couple of hours... should have been done 6 years ago and if I'd known how easy it was, it would have been! Anyway, the garage door is currently open and I'm waiting for the few bits I missed yesterday and the patches I've had to re-do this morning, to dry before I get out there and paint it properly.

I'm hoping to have to help with this task..
