I'm Alive

So, yeah, I have no idea when the last time I wrote an entry or anything, so I figured I would. Basically, I love life! Georgetown is absolutely amazing, and I love all of my classes. The only thing that sucks is that most of my favorite people, and all of my friends in my major just graduated... Maybe I'll have to start hanging out with grad students.

I broke up with Chris in mid-April after dating for over a year...it was "good" as far as breakups go. It was time, and I'm definitely enjoying being single right now. A few new interests, but nothing serious since I'm never in one place for a long enough time.

The school-year ended amazingly, with two really unforgettable nights. I won't go into detail, but one was staying up all night and watching the sun rise over the Potomac on the rooftop of my building, and the other involved "spreading finals cheer" and other festivities around campus and especially in the library! I actually kinda kicked ass this semester academically too, especially in comparison to last year. It turns out I'm actually kinda smart when I take classes I'm interested in! Maybe I will have a shot at grad school now.

I worked a lot this past semester at the RHO (getting paid to sleep and occasionally letting in people who get locked out), and at the Brain and Language Lab, which was super-awesome. I got to help a grad student finish her dissertation research about the acquisition of an artificial language. She's starting as a professor at University of Illinois in the fall, so yay for having professor contacts/references in my field!

This summer, I have a job at Roosevelt Elementary School in Worcester as a special-ed instructional assistant for 2nd and 4th grade reading and math, at least until the end of the school year. Since it's the end of the year, everything is pretty crazy though, and they usually just send me around to cover classes for teacher meetings. The student body is about 40% Hispanic, so I get to put my Spanish skills to use. I guess my Spanish must be pretty good if 1st through 4th graders understand my Spanish and aren't making fun of my accent! I'm also still slaving away at O'Connor's a few nights a week.

In 16 days, I'm going to Costa Rica for a month! The first week, I'm taking a vacation with my family at a resort, and then from there, they are leaving and I am going to Playa Samara, where I'm doing a Spanish immersion program for 3 weeks, like the one I did in Ecuador. The school is right on the beach, and it is supposedly one of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica. It should be awesome, as long as I don't get skin cancer or anything.

So yeah, don't expect an update for a while, at least not till something exciting happens. Maybe I'll post about Costa Rica when I get there.

Bottom line: yay for life!
