Halloween Update

So Halloween wasn't as much of a bust as I expected. Backtracking: Halloweens since like, 03, have sucked. Until then I was little enough to trick-or-treat, or at Ry's haunted houses. Since then I went to one "party" during college where I met up with all the Natick-ites again and we went to Pizza Hut. Another year I went to Maddy's with Caro where we saw Nightmare Before Christmas in the theater after Caro and her car were hit by eggs. Epic Fail. We've had no kids trick-or-treat for years except Eva and Luke. And that was it, Halloween was gone. I expected the same this year. Goddamn I was wrong.

I'm walking home from work and noticed that my street is blocked off by cops at 5:40. I think nothing of it being beside the State house and turn onto the street. The ENTIRE street is COVERED with kids. It was like a freaking block party. I held onto my witch hat and hiked up the cape (both I had worn to work because I was in "Fuck you all it's Halloween/Samhain and I AM a witch" mode) and ran to the house to get our minuscule bowl of candy. I stripped off my business attire, threw on the rest of the witch costume and went downstairs with my mom to hand out the candy. It lasted 15 minutes. (Mike is in bed sleeping through all this BTW. At 6.) Neighbors came down to offer what they had, also not expecting HUNDREDS of kids. We chatted with them for awhile, got to know them, and Mom and I headed off to wiggle our way through to see the houses.

That was a project. Mount Vernon, Pickney, West Ceader, Charles...all the streets near us had not only found time to decorate while I was at work, but did a DAMN good job. Cobwebs, lights, the whole shebang. There was a Wicked Witch hanging out of her house that put me to shame. Voice, dri-ice, hour glass. She was phenomenal. We went by Senator Kerry's house and had to physically push through. I've never seen anything like this in my life. Kids, Adults, dogs, all dressed up. Adults without kids just enjoying Halloween in costume.

So, next year, I invite you all to come over here. This needs to be seen. And next year, Mum and I plan to buy a shit-ton of candy.
