It’s no coincidence how things happen. Here are two girls on a 7 hour road trip en route to a music festival in Monterey. They are blasting their favorite music and talking how much they love these artists and how much they’ve been blessed by their music. Then one of the friends shares an idea that’s been on her heart for 2 years: What if there was a central network that these artists could call when they needed help? They talk about the idea, they expand on the idea, and they grow to LOVE the idea. Before they know it they have a mission and vision statement, a logo, the start of a business plan, a registered name, the beginnings of a web-site, and support from many.
Of course, I’m talking about Jodi and I and our vision for our ministry, Purple Fermata. If you’ve been around me at all for the past month I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about. It’s something I’m so passionate about and it’s amazing to be a part of it.
Here’s the thing though, if you really look at it, we don’t have much right now. In fact, all we really have is out Twitter page (
http://www.twitter.com/PurpleFermata ). On our twitter page we follow several artists. We go through the list and see what their current needs are and we pray for them. We also retweet so that others may pray, and we post any specific things we are praying for. Again, it’s not much, but it’s a start. And if there is one thing I learned on my mission trip to Panama, it that PRAYER WORKS!!
I also think it’s no coincidence that for 2 weeks my Pastor preached on generosity. I felt that she was preaching and talking about Purple Fermata directly. Both her sermons on generocity were touching, however, one verse really got to me.
For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. (2 Corinthians 8:11, NIV)
The entire passage (2 Corinthians 8 1-16) is amazing and I really resonated with it. However, this verse stood out to me.
We are ready, we are willing, but we don’t have much. Like I told Jodi when I shared this with her, we actually don’t have anything right now. We’re just 2 girls with a twitter page (and it doesn’t have very many followers right now.) But we’re willing, and we’re ready. We’re praying for these bands, and we’re willing to work hard to be able to do more in the near future.
One day, I know Purple Fermata will be able to help many bands and it will go beyond prayer, it will be able to help monetarily and through this network. Jodi believes in it, her dad (a business man) believes in it, 2 women in Canada believe in it, a drummer believes in it, the band that inspired this believes in it, I believe in it, but more importantly, God believes in it.
I fully believe in my heart that one day soon we will just more than 2 girls and a twitter page, but for right that’s perfectly acceptable to God.
