I'm beyond tickled pink that Jay Baruchel listed both David Krumholtz and Annakin Slayd in his #FF tweet.

So niuxita21 and I have been tweeting each other, angry at the world for what is going on with favourite shows, ships, and characters. It's rather cathartic. That said, it would be nice to get my thoughts gathered properly (and not broken up in 140-character messages).

Okay, so I was reading some thoughts on Bones prior to this episode and I was reminded of my issues with Booth and Brennan. He is an old school romantic with a penchant for being douchy when need be (don't tell me his threatening her with the termination of their friendship if she didn't stay with him at the bar isn't douchy. It was.) She is an unconventional woman, she didn't believe in love or marriage, she didn't want children. Fast forward here, they skipped over the romance, they hooked up, she got pregnant, and we get to see them six months later arguing "cutely" about marriage and sharing a place. What exactly is cute about "you'll be the one to ask me to marry you"? It's cocky at best, at worst it's discounting someone's (and I'm talking their "soul mate") feelings. It's also disconcerting for me, someone who is not that much into marriage to see it being treated lightly (despite my feelings on it) is pretty shitty. And really, like Niu said, "bc Brennan is anti-marriage but she'll totally ~change her entire belief system for the man she ~loves. Gag. Me." so yeah, this marriage line (yes, it's a few seconds of exchange) is not a great way to start off the season.

The issue of moving into together is a pretty contentious one, and something I forgot to mention during my tweetfest is that Brennan's not even ready for it at first. It's like talking to her friend and it's like she's ready? Okay, um, yeah... that cannot end well, but it's Bones so of course it will. This is the show that shoehorns things like a desire for a baby and a pregnancy into the storyline and it's all magically okay. But yes, they couldn't live at Booth's because it's too small, but he couldn't handle moving into her place? Clearly she's able to move in with him (if the apartment were bigger) but he can't do the same in this reversal. I call bullshit on this: BULLSHIT. The thing is Brennan was actually being rational, it makes sense not to buy in this market but Brennan had to bow down to pressure.

And the baby (is it able to squee sarcastically? Because I'd like to). I'm not the biggest fan of baby storylines, but it all depends on how they're handled. Let's compare Angela and Hodgins to Brennan and Booth. Angela and Hodgins had a very good pre-existing romantic relationship before their baby was born. They fell in love, got married, and there was some shit in there, but they had the time to get their life settled before Baby Hodgins came into the world. Brennan and Booth? Well they were linked emotionally for a long time, but once they got together it happened too quickly. The problem with a pregnancy storyline is that there's the impending parenthood to deal with- it kind of removes the magic if it's done out of the blue.

The good bits of the show were seeing the doubt in Brennan- at least we still get that. The line about the woman being able to reinvent herself was pretty awesome. Also, Brennan mentioning she has a pic of Booth making an omelette naked (although, really, that's in response to him taking a picture of her crying. What the hell was that about? I love it when someone delights in another's hormone changes/misery.)

Finally, do we know if that's Chris O'Dowd in the promo for next week? It looks like him...

I love Parks and Recreation, but this episode, I think, had the unfortunate responsibility of showing us Leslie's heartache over Ben. The thing is I don't like Leslie and Ben as a couple. Hell it took me a long time to warm up to Ben at all- he is to me what L'il Sebastian was to him, I don't get the fuss, but more than that, I worry about all the fuss that is being made by fandom and TPTB. One of the reasons I love Leslie so much is because she's all about female empowerment, never in a million years would I think she'd go crazy with jealousy, but that's what we got last night. It's bad enough to see a love interest (seriously, Niu's 156 characters are the most apt "but saddling them w/ a LI makes it seem as though their characters are not interesting if they're not attached to a man, and that pisses me the fuck off.") but to see this intelligent, and yes, kooky woman go all jealous hit a new low. I guess I'm worried that this hsow is on a slippery path towards the "woman falls for man and suddenly everything in her life is about him" trope... and to be honest it seems to me there are a few fans who wouldn't mind this. Hell, I've seen a few mention their wish of Leslie dropping her campaign to be with Ben, which makes little sense (it's not just the campaign, it's also Chris) and for Leslie to drop the campaign, well that would be a bit of her dying. *waves hands* I guess I just wish they didn't open up this can of worms.

bones, parks & recreation, wtf???
