Day Twenty-Four: Favorite female romantic relationship
I have an issue of not connecting to female romantic relationships in fandom because I suck (my slash goggles are hellishly broken) and because fandoms, in general, suck and don't really offer up much when it comes to females in a same-sex relationship (Who could possibly be interested in watching the relationship grow if they're not in bed? Grrr)
So I did some googling and I came across two couples I remember liking: Haruka Tenoh and Michiru Kaioh from Sailor Moon and Paige and Alex from Degrassi: The Next Generation. Sadly I just don't remember much about either pairing. :(
I can't choose my favourite due to my lack of memory and due to my interest in each pairing coming from a different place.
Haruka Tenoh and Michiru Kaioh interested me because they are a couple in an anime, a couple that lost its identity as such in the translation to English. American dubbers choosing to, instead, label them cousins. They were also introduced to Sailor Moon (the Japanese Anime) in 1994, at a time where many characters faced slef-doubt or ridiculed others because of sexuality, and yet there wasn't a fuss made of their sexuality.
Sailor Uranus: Are... you... scared ...Michiru?
Sailor Neptune: Haruka
Sailor Uranus: What
Sailor Neptune: I want to touch you, Haruka...
[Their hands touch as they are fading]
As for Paige and Alex, I just thought they were interesting because I do like seeing the "good" person end up with the "bad" person. Also, I finally found Paige to be interesting rather than overbearing, annoying, and boring. While reading up on them, I found a blog on afterellen.com that stated that Alex told Paige that she didn't need to worry about labels. Not something I'd expect in high school, but I like that it's a message to a teenage audience
"Because I love you, you idiot!"
Also, I enjoyed their friendship prior to exploring their feelings for each other.
Alex: Not that I'd ever admit this, but I used to be scared of you.
Paige: Please, I am so not scary.
Alex: No, you're a pushover a coward and a suck. 'Cause if my boyfriend showed up here and treated me that way, I'd be shopping for a new boyfriend.
