Aaarrrgh--- Computers!

First of all, the wedding was lovely. It was worth all the effort I put into it. Johanna looked beautiful, and the happy couple took off for Italy on their honeymoon. I settled happily into my fall routine, working on new jewelry during the week and selling it at the museum on the weekend.

This lasted until last Friday when my laptop turned up its toes and died. I didn't know this at first, of course. I just thought it was having a problem; it went into a zombie state and wouldn't either turn on or power off. Silly me, I thought it would be fixable. Not so. I am the proud but broke owner of a new laptop, after a week of misery.

Now I know just how much of a pathetic fanfic addict I really am. Cranky didn't even begin to describe it. To say nothing of the work I was in the middle of when it died, and the bookkeeping I needed to do.

And since nothing ever goes smoothly, although they assured me that they'd been able to transfer all my data from the defunct one, there are two apps (ones I use a lot) that I can't even open.

Also, in one of those nasty coincidences, Karl's hard drive also died. The tech spent way too much time here today, caught in a sticky web of compatibility issues, and left us with a temporary hard drive until he can order some esoteric part. Karl was not so lucky with data transfer. He's spent the rest of the day trying futilely to get back to where he was. He still has weird stuff going on.

Our friend Aaron, a past master at dealing with such things, assures us he'll come over sometime this weekend with the updates and fixes we need. And do we ever need!
